Mata had some incredible passes as well. Rooney isn't seeing the ball or is losing it too easy when he does get it. I don't know if he is just slipping physically or not getting the service or both. And depay hasn't done sweet **** all since he's been here. Doesnt look dangerous at all, either turns it over, can't deliver a pass or can't hit the net. Shaw looked really good yesterday though, some nice tackles.
I agree with everything you said. Schneiderlin is a fantastic tackler and its great having someone like him break up play in the midfield. I think that's part of the reason why we have 2 clean sheets so far. That being said, he doesn't have any creativity and is slow sometimes, but i'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt because it's still 2 games in and i'm sure he'll get better as he gels with the team.
Depay hasn't done anything I agree, but I think we're putting too much expectation on a 21 year old who just joined the team. Hopefully he gets better over time. Rooney is the one who i've been so disappointed with. The guy needs to lead the team and get on the ball more. I think he either just isn't capable of being a striker anymore or needs to get into that striker mentality because if he isn't scoring we're going to struggle badly. I feel like he's only taken like 2-3 shots in the 2 games combined... Either way the team is still playing slow possession and not making any chances. I'm watching Dortmund play right now and they're just wave of attack after attack being dangerous. I understand possession is LVG's philosophy but without the attacking mentality and switching gears it's useless possession.
Schweinsteiger was impressive to me the last 30min he came on yesterday. Mata has been great too he's just by far the most creative one on our team and that assist proves it. I wish there was a way we could somehow sneak him into the 10 role again and not have it hinder us on our high press or defensive side. From what I've seen so far I would start like this next game for the CL qualification.
Romero; Darmian, Smalling, Blind?, Shaw; Schweinsteiger, Carrick; Mata, Herrera, Young, Rooney
I still like Young over Januzaj or Depay and bring in Herrera for that little bit of creativity and workrate. Hopefully Rooney can bag a goal this upcoming game for confidence.
Nevertheless, we've gotten 6 points in 2 games and i'm happy with that! Hope we keep winning 3 points!
