I'm curious to see how far OSP can go based on sheer athleticism. This is a guy who played D-1 college football, started training and fighting at exactly the same time like 6-7 years ago and from my understand to this day still trains at some dinky a** gym in Knoxville where he is the only name fighter whatsoever. I can't imagine that a big gym wouldn't love to have a guy like that to mold. Especially in a terrible division like LHW where the skill level is relatively low.

His technique is unorthodox to say the least but he has Rumble level power.

It would be a combo of a testament to how much athleticism is important in MMA and how much the former glamour weight in MMA sucks these days. I think OSP has the advantage on the feet against Glover due to his kicking game and the odd angles he can provide. But ultimately the ground will be his undoing as it was against Bader. Similar sort of power, movement, and control on the ground from Glover. Just better ideas on how to pass. So maybe it'll look more like Mousasi-OSP.

Man, this doesn't seem like a good match-up for the surging MJ against the man who got ko'ed by stripper Ramsey. MJ's best defense on the ground has been avoiding going there. But Dariush has been working kicks to the body from distance, where MJ isn't adept. Then clinching up when you're forced to come in and relentlessly working trips or getting you to lean one way and then going with it to get you to the ground. If/when that happens in this fight, it's all over for that round pretty much, maybe the match. Dariush has a smooth passing game he was even working on Carlos Diego Ferreira, and it's not like Blackzilians are going to teach you how to defend chokes much.

Going from Daniel Kelly to Derek Brunson is quite. Unathletic busy body to well-rounded athletic guy with good timing and tactics. Cormier is stealing my thunder here a bit, but I don't know if people recalled Brunson was cruising against Romero b4 a dramatic flurry in the 3rd of that one. As always thought Alvey has a puncher's or whizzer's chance. If Brunson doesn't keep his distance he'll be in some danger against the opportunism, fast hands, and power of Alvey. And he's a wrestler, so he won't always. He'll be cruising in this one too unless something happens, or it doesn't. The latter Is always the easier bet.

I agree with most of that. This may not be popular but I question Glover's chin a little bit. Bader took some big shots against OSP that I'm not 100% positive Glover can eat.

IMO the MJ/Johnson winner should get a number one contender match next. Too bad that division is seemingly stagnant at the moment with lots of injuries near the top. You are definitely right about the grappling aspect of that fight. MJ was clowned by Jury on the ground while Dariush is one of the best pure grapplers in that whole division. That said, the standup will be super interesting, MJ came forward like a demon against Barboza and walked right through his shots. We'll see if Dariush can keep him at bay or else take him to the ground.

People may hate on the wrestling but I love watching Ortiz fight. Laying a beatdown right now, luckily for Gates the fight is artificially interrupted by round breaks, so he will have one more chance to swing for the fences and win. Without those this fight is over already.

edit: Out or not, the ref let that go on too long imo. How many hundred shots in a row does a guy have to land with no escape or return shot? I hope Gates isn't cut.

I feel like Kong Watson is like 1-10 in the ufc. I can remember so many losses but only one win.

Hall wins by GnP in four seconds over guy I've never heard of who has 5 total fights. I'm predicting he fights in December against top 20 MW, loses by close decision in a boring fight, then back to fighting a ufc first timer by next April.

Wow, McMann just lost decisively and quickly to Nunes. Surprised by that one. Of all the fighters who got quickly dispatched by Rousey, I assumed she would be the one who would be an interesting fight in the future. But now she has lost 3 of 4 with her one win being a split decision that was controversial. Looking at her record now, she doesn't even have a good win tbh. Wouldn't be surprised if the ufc cut her since she implied litigation against them due to the reebok deal. Also, Nunes gets off fast.

Alright this HW fight is just so bad. First off, the fat one was fighting hard for a guillotine from bottom mount for a good amount of time. The Rosholt jumps to the correct side (guillotine still on) to nullify the choke and possibly pull off a von flue choke, but instead of doing those things he jumps to the incorrect side and puts himself back in danger. Sloppy standup. Rosholt in the first round spending more energy pleading for the ref to break them up than using his wrestling to pummel and put the other guy on the mat or back against the cage. No idea how people could enjoy this over Ortiz for example.

OSP grabs the lockdown but doesn't use it for what its supposed to be used for which it to stretch the opponent and get them off you. So frustrating.

OSP is just winging this whole thing. Just fighting on athleticism alone.

That was pretty much 1 sided, I was expecting a bit more of a interesting/entertaining/exciting fight. Ah well.

Back to the drawing board for OSP I suppose.

OSP is going to need to join a good camp if he wants to go to the next level. He can get by on his athleticism fighting Cummins and Jimmo, but not a top 5-10 guy. You have to have more strategy than "if they take me down, I'll stand up". and you have to train with guys who can give you a good look.

OSP needs to get to The Lab or Tristar or ATT in the worst way. Imagine what a top camp can do with that raw talent. Johnson got hosed pretty badly, and at the worst possible time. Hopefully the UFC don't treat that fight as a loss.
