Jamal Murray
- Was one of the best players at the Nike Hoop Summit
- Is playing extremely well for Canada in the Pan Am games
- Will be playing for Calipari at Kentucky next year
I don't know much about this kid other than those 2 performances (and admittedly the US roster was horrible), but is it crazy to think he could have a D'Angelo Russell type rise on the big board next year? Is a bit undersized at the 2 but looks like a natural scorer, very comfortable with the ball in his hands taking the big shots. Could see him as a top 5 sleeper in next years draft.

Russell is a far beyond him as a passer. He is mocked top 15 across sites and realistically goes 6-10 IMO.

The Jamal Murray train is gaining steam. He's the hottest name on the board right now.

I like him but not with a top5 pick, he is far from DLo in terms of creativity and all that, he is effective and poised, but is tier below prospect.

DLo is a FAR superior playmaker, but Murray's ability to create off the dribble and space for himself exceeds him. He's much more shifty with the ball, and changes paces extremely well to freeze his man creating angles to sever his body around defenders well overcoming any explosive deficit he might have. DLo never displayed that kind of creativity as a scorer.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth

Didn't really need to with that quick release but I agree with the overall point.

Very interested in Murray and I do think he's a top 5 talent right now. But a memo to whatever team that drafts him:

Re: Jamal Murray
He is the best player in the tournament at 18 he can shoot the lights out as a slasher and a 3 pt shooter and already has a nasty step back jumper. He will take a huge jump in the draft pecking order and will likely be in the FIBA Americas with the National Team. He has always been the top player in high level competitions whether Nike or now the PanAm Games. Canada will have the second strongest team after the USA in the FIBA Americas.

No way is he a tier below. Their passing ability is not far from each other at all. Russell's passing has gotten a bit overrated now. Murray is also much more athletic as well as more creative and looks like he could be an even better scorer

Bird would have won 4 rings with that team, in this weak ass era of basketball.

Re: Jamal Murray
This time last year Russell wasn't even expected to be a one and done, so I'll wait a little longer before declaring Murray to not be on Russell's level. They are different kinds of players, but it would not shock me at all is Murray was just as good this year as Russell was last year.

Well he wasnt expected to be one&done just due to his lack of physical strnegth, and people thinking that it might take him two years to get enough buzz, but moslty everybody had him as a top pick in 2016.
Murray hype has much moreto do iwth a couple of games and the fact that he is going to UK than to his skills or his level as a prospect.

Murray may be the most proven prospect I can ever remember heading into college. This guy has had some really good games in really big games over the past few years. It seems like every time he shows up on a national stage, he makes people wonder why he isn't more highly rated.
Russell was just a guy that people didn't realize was as good as he was.

False, revisionist history. Russell was expected to be a jack of all trades, but nothing near what he did in college especially in regards to passing

Russell was considered a 2&D guy and ALWAYS considered an elite passer. Always.

Re: Jamal Murray
I just want to share with you guys that I met Jamal Murray at Gate 1 at the Air Canada Centre today, and he's a big guy (6'5" at least).
I recognized him and said "Jamal Murray?"... he said "yeah, whats up?" I said "good luck with your future, you're going to make us (Canadians) proud".. he put his hand out to me to shake my hand and said "thank you."
My first impression of him is that he's a huge PG... also, he's a very nice guy... he happily put out his hand on his own will with a smile on his face to say thanks. I can't wait for him to be a Raptor... Im pulling for UK this upcoming season.

Re: Jamal Murray
Not sure how serious, but UK has a mandatory report date for athletes to be eligible to play 1st semester. Murray playing for Team Canada this summer would cut into that date. Team Canada wants Murray to play for them this summer but UK is apparently not budging on that date. Cal is lobbying hard for a compromise but not sure there will be one reached. I can't see Murray giving up 6 months of basketball for 2 weeks but some UK people have said it's a possibility Murray may choose to play for Canada then play overseas for a year or just prepare for the draft.
