the problem is with Don. you don't push a struggling relief pitcher on a new team out on the mound a game after game... this is just stupid. let him sit and get acclimated, let him get comfortable first, then put him in situations where he can succeed a bit easily. **** Don leaving him out there after the game turned 5-4 was to me absolutely stupid. leaving him out there when the game got tied was unacceptable. but leave him out there after giving away the lead? really? that's all on the manager.

I sure hope Andrew and Co. stop their bromance with Joel Peralta and use that roster spot for something else useful.

I'm actually quite surprised that korean kid has only hit 9 HRs this season. I expected around 25 this year and should have been on pace for about 15 right about now.

One thing that has bothered me about this front office is that they seem like they wont admit mistakes.

Peralta was a mistake. Cut bait and move forward. Why the hell do i have to see him walk out there 2-3 times a week and give up runs and big bombs?

DFA the guy and go find someone through waivers who can get the job done.
why the **** didn't we get Carter Capps in the deal with Florida?

Baseball Tonight's Observations

Post#207 » by Ranma » Mon Aug 10, 2015 11:20 pm

The Baseball Tonight panel just expressed concern over the Dodgers' bullpen noting Mattingly's distrust in the team's 7th and 8th inning options to serve as a bridge to Kenley Jansen in the 9th. The panel also says they're hearing from scouts and organizational members that Pederson needs an offseason of work to fix his swing while Puig just needs to make adjustments at the plate. They also disapprove of having Pederson in the 8th slot since he'll likely be pitched around to prevent him from getting the work in to fix his swing.

Also, the panel noted that having to answer questions about Puig has been a bit of a distraction for the Dodgers. I also saw that Mattingly pulled Puig aside to talk with him about his limited playing time. The team plane also apparently didn't land until 4am this morning.

Gonna take my first official stance against the new regime and I'd be glad to be proven wrong.

There's no reason Peralta should be spending another second in a Dodger jersey. He should have been designated at the earliest convenience. He wasn't good last year. He's not good this year. It didn't work. There's no reason to be bullheaded and try to prove you were right in dealing for this guy. Just move on and cut bait. We're fortunate enough to be able add relievers if we happen to lose relievers…so just move on.

I don't mind giving JJ another shot. I truly dunno wtf happened and why he hasnt meshed when he was damn good in Atlanta.
But the Peralta guy. This a joke or something? get him outta here and let's get some new blood up.

well I agree that Joel Peralta has been **** and looks like he is done, but despite his ERA last season, he was tossing about 1.1 WHIP and below 4.00 FIP so the last year's version still had value. I know the injury must have something to do with his 1.6 WHIP atrocity he calls pitching, but I agree that roster spot could be used for a younger arm who can help us, and I do believe this is exactly what is going to hapen once Frias comes off the DL. Carlos felt pain again in his AAA rehab assignment but placed in major league squad's DL so that must mean he is going to be a part of this roster before this month is over.

as for Jim, his track record speaks for itself, his stuff is still nasty as ever. you see his balls twist and turn everywhere? he doesn't have a pitch it seems to me, that doesn't move. I think coming over to a high pressure, contending team and blowing his initial debut might have gotten the best of him so far. I fully expect him to settle down, but Don the Potato ( I liked your new nickname for him I should and 1 it if I haven't already) may continue to miss use him.

BTW, I hated the ESPN misusing the stats badly for our pitching staff. they kept showing how Kershaw and Greinke are dominant and yet the rest of the rotation summed up above 4 ERA. that is not true. the guys who pitched badly are already gone, some back down to AAA and some DFA and not even in the organization anymore. Magic MIke's ERA is below 3, Anderson's ERA is just above 3, and Mat Latos and Alex Wood just got here. only starting pitcher this year that has pitched worse than 4 ERA (if that is the cutline, according to ESPN) is Frias and he is coming back as a reliever, which is where he belongs.

yeah I've been noticing the same thing. Joc is not seeing any good pitches hitting in front of a pitcher and having Callaspo batting in the 7th hole is just plain dumb. you want the guy he can't hit but a feisty little guy in the 8th hole, and a guy who has mega power if he sees enough fastballs in the zone in the 7th hole.

and with all the crap Puig gets for his wildness, how about Ethier getting caught in no man's land not paying attention to the runner ahead of him or the 3rd base coach?

finally, this Carl Crawford starting every series business is non-sense. the man is hitting equivalent to Joel Peralta pitching.
ehhhhh f it.

just want to add that Anthony Rendon is one of my favorite non-Dodgers.

would love to try and bring him over in the winter.
but that's another discussion.

Peraza Getting on Base

Post#215 » by Ranma » Tue Aug 11, 2015 4:30 am

Not only was it great to see Peraza get that triple (with the help of Bryce Harper's fielding gaffe), but he just walked to lead off an inning albeit in a game where the Dodgers are being routed. The kid is 1 for 3. Hope he steals a base or two.

Edit: Jose Peraza ended up finishing the game going 1 for 4 with a triple, walk, and strikeout.

well? looks like Andrew is seeing what we are seeing, and another mysterious stint to DL for Joel is opening up a spot for Yimi Garcia to rejoin the bullpen tonight.

I fully expect JIm to settle down, eventually, if used correctly by mr. Potato, and be our 8th inning set up man. that leaves Baez and Garcia our 7th guys and JP could probably fall into being a situational relief in 7th or 8th, which should leave Nicasio and Avilan as middle relief when starters fail sooner than 6 innings.

I just wish Don would start using Avilan more often. even as a point relief.

btw good call on Avilan Ned.

right on cue…clean 9th inning.
him and Yimi were impressive.

I hope we don't see JJ in another high leverage situation.
Hoopefully we can blow the doors off Cincy when they get here and we'll have space for him to build his confidence back up.

Kike-Peraza middle infield.
CC batting lead off because he has to make his one start per series when Andre could just be playing. :nonono:

I like Peraza in the 8 hole. Let's him on…bunt him over…etc. etc.
Should be fun….hoping Kershaw shuts it down too and gives the pen a night off.

Carl Crawford hits a fluke double because Harper misjudged the flyball, then makes a dumb baserunning mistake and wipes out his rare scoring opportunity. what a waste of a roster spot.
