Here's the schedule, predict their record.

Also who will be our MVP on offense?
Who will be our defensive MVP?
Most surprising player?
Most disappointing?
Any pro bowl players?

I'm not going to analyze this in detail but I don't see 8-8. This will be either a "shock the world" run with a surprising playoff appearance or a complete train wreck.

I'm guessing most people bet on the latter but this season will be a window into the team's character and leadership (barring a rash of injuries that make it impossible to compete).

No more than 5 wins next season--I'll take us against the Vikings, Rams, Bears, Cards, and Browns. That should be good enough to get us a top three pick.

Offensive MVP- Vernon Davis. Injury plagued 2014, I think he'll bounce back strong and finish as a top 5 TE in terms of overall production.

Defensive MVP- NaVorro Bowman. He'll bounce back strong from the knee injury, and finish with 100+ tackles.

Surprising Player- Cornellius Carradine and Darnell Dockett. I think they'll help our defense exceed expectations. We won't be a top tier defense by any means, but we'll be competitive.

Disappointing Player- Carlos Hyde. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see him being an every down back. I think Mike Davis and Reggie Bush will make this more and more of a three headed attack as the season progresses.

Pro Bowlers-Vernon Davis, Joe Staley, NaVorro Bowman

Damn...the talent pool this year compared to the last few years. I've never seen such a huge drop off in talent.

Until I see the defense falter in live game situations, I'm not writing this team off... The defensive front seven in paticular has the the potential to keep any game close...

If we get to 7, the games I want to win most are the Seattle games, Steelers (a lot of talk, though warranted), Ravens (SB Loss), Bengals (they always get two lucky games by FG kickers either barely making it or opponent's missing/penalty on mostly uncalled fouls), Arizona and Rams (at least the home games). I do want to keep beating the Packers, too, but I am resigned enough not to prioritize it.

Would love to beat Seattle at home. Last year's Thanksgiving loss was really disappointing especially at how flat the team looked. I expected them to come out with more intensity after the NFCCG loss in Seattle and they looked lethargic

Really need to wait until the preseason because how the secondary is to me going to have a big factor on how effective the defense is.

My gut tells me 7 or 8 wins this year because while the team lost talent but it's not wildly different from the team that went 8-8 last season.

Aldon wasn't that impactful last season when he played, Willis was gone much of it, Bowman likely will be at least as good as Borland if not better. Really the biggest difference this season is the loss of Justin Smith will be felt and there are question marks with the secondary which could go either way.

Offensively Torrey Smith is an upgrade over Crabtree, Vernon Davis was mostly a non factor last season and poised to be a factor this one, Gore's loss is a bit overstated and I see it being a wash with Hyde and the overall RB corp is better this season. Offensive line is where the biggest hit happened with Iupati and A. Davis especially with Davis as the team at least hand plans at G to replace Iupati but with Davis there wasn't that plan.

I won't predict until the end of pre-season but I think the defense will be better than people think and that it really depends on the questions on offense, kaep, the line, Hyde.

If you're comparing to last season, Davis was out a big chunk of last season as well and when he did attempt to come back he still wasn't right... I don't know much about Eric Pears, but surely he can't be as bad as Jonathen Martin was last season... Right?

Kaepernick actually shows a bit of progress now that he doesn't have Jeff George - i mean - Jim Harbaugh breathing down his neck thinking that he himself is the starting QB the Niners really need.

"Look at me, fellas! I got my cleats on & I'm throwing passes to Chuck Jacobs... put me in, coach - err- me!"

The Niners went from a coach who wears suits to a coach who wears no pants to a coach who wears cleats and khakis. Here's to hoping SF does better under a coach who is more focused on football than his own clothing or the lack thereof. (sorry, I know I got a bit off track there.)

P.S.

7-9

Boldin
Bowman
Armstead (I know he was our 1st rounder, but I was so, so very low on him as a prospect that anything positive he does will surprise the heck out of me)
Armstead. Or if I can't cheat and have him as both Most Surprising & Disappointing, I'll go with Jimmie Ward.
4 Pro Bowlers is my Over/Under. Can't say who though, since the process is such a crap shoot.

Offensive MVP: Vernon Davis - Think he'll bounce back strong and I see the addition of T. Smith opening things up for him.

Defensive MVP: Bowman - I see there being too much of a rotation with the D line for anyone to truly standout so I'll give this to Bowman

Surprise player: Lawrence Okoye - Going on a limb on this one but I think this will finally be the year we'll the investment start paying off.

Disappointing player: Quinton Patton - Things don't sound so good for Patton right now and this might be Jason Hill all over again

Well two weeks into the preseason and I would say my optimism is a little higher so I'm starting to lean on 8-9 wins this season.

Though Saturday will be the dress rehearsal against a quality opponent so we should have a good indication than.

Well now that we are 3/4 of the way into preseason I'm leaning more towards train wreck. If we lose to MN the first game of the season (very possible) then I'm thinking 4-5 wins.

As annoying as Harbaugh's personality probably was he seemed to provide (or generate) some kind of energy that I'm just not seeing right now. At points last night it really seemed like some players (not all) were just going through the motions. That's disturbing. Denver seemed jacked up and way more emotional invested.
