Rogers Communications has contacted former Detroit Tigers boss Dave Dombrowski about the Blue Jays presidency.

The Tigers told Dombrowski, 59, that his time as president and general manager was over, four days after the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

Jays president Paul Beeston’s end is at the end of October, so there is, as the scouts say, a fit.

However, the Jays are not the only team interested in Dombwoski’s services. The Los Angeles Angels and the Boston Red Sox also have openings.

There also could be a change coming atop the Seattle Mariners organization with GM Jack Zduriencik. The Washington Nationals have yet to replace the irreplaceable Stan Kasten, who headed west to run the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Dombrowski has been a GM or president for 27 seasons winning the 1997 World Series and having his teams reach post-season play six times.

It's a mistake if he is coming here to replace Alex

Eddie Rogers wanted a big name baseball guy to replace Beeston. If Dombrowski can wait until the end of the season, then this is probably inevitable.

Not that I know anything, but I've gathered the sense from reading our beat guys that if you want AA to stay, Dombrowski is probably the presidential candidate to root for.

I just find that hard to believe.

Alex has been running baseball operations and reports to Beeston of what is going on and then Beeston will speak with Rogers.

If Dombrowski comes here, there's no question he would want his hand in the cookie jar, I just dont see him handling business ops only.

If I was Alex, why would I want that? Not to mention the teams that are looking for a GM in the off-season - Alex will surely be on top of people's lists.

I'm an advocate of the Jays just coming out and extending AA. I understand the bureaucracies that go along with hiring a President and wanting him to bring in his front office, but the Jays shouldn't mind that. Extend Alex, if that becomes a sticking point for the new Prez then those are the breaks.

If they bring in Dombrowski to supplant AA as the head of baseball operations, I also don't really see why AA would want to stay either. Nor do I think that Ed Rogers wants him to based on his actions over the past year.

That's what Jeff Blair said this morning too.

They think Beeston is pushing Guy Lawrence of Rogers to extend him now and then get a President later.

If that President doesn't like Alex - he is the wrong guy for the job, vice versa.

Dombrowski has a great relationship with AA. He's not going to want him out.

That's not what I'm saying.

Alex has full control. I don't see Dombroski assuming only Beeston's work load, he's going to want a say in baseball ops.

Why would Alex want that? Especially if other teams offer him full control?

Bobcat was saying that Dombrowski may be asking for $8 mill a year!

Not sure if Rogers will pay that much.

I heard the price for Dan Duquette was Pentecost and Hoffman. If im the Jays id consider a Pentecost + prospect deal with the Orioles.

Baltimore is not playing full steam this year, so its taken some of the shine off of Duquette but he is the type of guy we need.

Ye you might say, why trade prospects while this guy is a FA. But id say, if u want the best. U gotta pay for the best.

Beeston really had no idea about AA's future today in a McCown interview and said he wouldn't be involved in that decision (despite saying he would keep him if he was involved), so Ed Rogers could conceivably still be trying to replace him. Honestly, nothing would surprise me at this point.

Rogers was willing to tamper and trade prospects to hire a president who would have directly impacted AA's employment last year, so I agree, I don't think AA is safe regardless of who they hire as team president. Obviously a deep playoff run may change things, but even then, it will depend on who they hire.

I think Eddie wouldn't mind cleaning his hands of both Beeston and AA.

Not having a job for 2016 this late into 2015 probably doesn't make AA too happy either. Many see his return as a foregone conclusion now that he's made the trades, but like you, I don't think that's the case at all. There will be public pressure to keep AA if they make the playoffs (and that was enough to seemingly get Ed to back off Duquette last year after a month of stupid trade rumours), but the guy definitely wants to make a change.
