Red Sox manager John Farrell diagnosed with lymphoma

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell revealed Friday that he has been diagnosed with stage 1 lymphoma.

Farrell told reporters that the cancer was discovered during a minor hernia surgery earlier this week. He will sit out the remainder of the season.

The 53-year-old described the cancer as “localized” and “highly curable.”

Farrell will begin chemotherapy next week. Torey Lovullo will manage the team in Farrell’s absence.

Geez, after he and the Red Sox sold their souls for their "dream job" World Series, things have gone really downhill for this guy and their team. But this is not something he deserves at all, so I hope he gets better ASAP. And besides, from a Jays fan's perspective, it takes the fun out of rooting against him.
