Kawasaki is up over Valencia because he brings the 'I am Japanese' magic. AA understands this power and knows that when used sparingly, it results in wins and win streaks. When overused it results in losses, hence Kawasaki being sent back down.

Gibby should take notes on this re:usage of relievers, specifically Osuna.

This move continues to eat me up.

We had Smoak on 2nd base in the 8th, hoping he could score on a single. Then he gets to 3rd with just 1 out, and we're praying he could score on a sac fly. Meanwhile, we could have had Valencia pinch run for him 2 days ago, because he could fill in at 1st (let alone, 2nd, 3rd, or LF). Kawasaki, not so much. Why do we need Kawasaki dancing on our bench? They do know Travis is due to come back at some point, right?

That's the versatility argument. Which, as airtight as it is, doesn't even compare to the another quality bat on the bench argument.
Is anybody here a marine biologist?

According to a major-league source, the White Sox, Rangers and Orioles have emerged as three of the likeliest destinations for Valencia, who is expected to be claimed off trade waivers on Monday.

PLEASE not the Orioles.

Good pickup for the A's. He should play DH for Butler or 1b for Davis.

Steve Simmons ripped Valencia's personality in his column today:

What’s inside a clubhouse and outside a clubhouse so often differs. From the outside, it was easy to indicate the Blue Jays would miss Danny Valencia, the bat lost on waivers to Oakland. From inside the clubhouse, the opinion is clearly the opposite. Valencia wasn’t exactly Mr. Congeniality with Jays players or clubhouse workers.

Looks like that time of the month where he needs website story hits to have a reason to keep his job. Anyone that believes anything this clown says is just as much of a clown.

Simmons' shtick is to rip the personalities of out going Toronto athletes. First Kessel then Lou Williams and now Valencia. What a disgrace this guy is.

Wilner was also reporting that Valencia was disliked in the clubhouse, which indicates to me that someone is intentionally leaking this.

I never want to read too much into these "X player was disliked" when you never hear anything until they are gone, but given that the Jays had a mixed reaction to Reyes leaving in the Tulowitzki trade and they didn't really say anything about losing Valencia on waivers, maybe there is something to it?

I remember one of the players in a post-game joked that Valencia doesn't like to be ribbed on. Guess that type of personality can cause some uncomfortableness.

If Valencia was such a trouble maker, then trade him prior to the deadline. Don't lose an asset for nothing while holding on to an 8-man bullpen and a 3-man bench with no back-up OF or 3B. Hell, trade Valencia for a 4th OF that hits from the right side prior to July 31st. Problem solved.

The Jays media trying to spin this as anything other than a waste of a resource is shoveling BS to the fanbase.

Bingo!

Also since when does anything Wilner say carry any weight? He's one of the biggest apologist for the Jays.

Jays just Sent Loup down... Carrera is supposed to be coming up soon.

odd since they coulda sent Loup down earlier, he has options... and kept Valencia.

.... then when rosters exapand in a month, call Loup up again. Even Carrera if the wanted.

just Odd of move

No one said Wilner's commentary carried any weight -- in fact I brought him up for the opposite reason -- but you just keep bringing that thunder, man.

AA isn't the type to let assets go for nothing. We've seen him option better players and bring up scrubs like JoJo Reyes and Todd Redmond in order to avoid losing them for nothing. So if AA cut a valuable bench player like Valencia despite having the ability to keep him by optioning someone else, then I'm sure there was an off the field issue with Valencia that we knew nothing about. As much as I dislike Wilner or Simmons, I think they're on to something here. Or more likely, the organization has told them part of the story so they can leak it.

You brought it up because Simmonds said the same thing. No need to try and sway that opinion, man.
