Croatia absolutely demolished Lithuania at it's home court. 59-72 was the final score even though Croatia had +20 for the whole game.

Finland has not been at its best lately, losing to both Italy and Slovenia in a tournament in Slovenia. After beating France at home to begin preparing for the tournament, Finland has also lost to Lithuania and split two games with Belgium. Today Finland will take on Ukraine. Ukraine surprinsingly beat Italy yesterday, after being down about 30 points at one point.

France has been looking better and better game by game, and should be probably considered to be the biggest favourite to win the title at this point. I can see Italy, Greece and Serbia, maybe Spain and Lithuania also fighting for the title.

Lithuania and Italy are not that strong tbh. I see it like this;

France
Spain

Serbia
Greece
Croatia

With Lithuania and Italy as dark horses.

Lithuania never looks strong, if you look at the names. But always performs better, than the roster suggests, its a team thing.

I think Lithuanian individuals are being bit underrated. They don't have European stars, but most of their role players are incredibly solid.

lol at people underrating Lithuania each and every year and 80% of the time they finish with a medal or 4th place. we lost to Croatia bc our coach was simply experimenting the young players and the players who are on the edge of making the team or getting cut. these are just friendly matches to get the feel for each other and see who will make the team. do not base your predictions from these games....not to mention JV wasn't playing in any of these friendlies

LITHUANIA will win a medal, don't sleep on them

Im looking forward to see Sabonis perform well in this Eurobasket despite being only 19 years old. He already looks super solid in every prep game and plays like a mature veteran, leading team in rebounds and efficiency.

German roster

PG
Dennis Schröder (Atlanta Hawks, NBA)
Maodo Lo (Columbia University, USA)
Heiko Schaffartzik (no team)

SG
Anton Gavel (FC Bayern Munich, GER)
Karsten Tadda (Brose Baskets, GER)
Akeem Vargas (Alba Berlin, GER)

SF
Robin Benzig (CAI Zaragossa, ESP)
Paul Zipser (FC Bayern Munich, GER)
Nils Giffey (Alba Berlin, GER)

PF
Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas Mavericks, NBA)
Alex King (Alba Berlin, GER)

C
Tibor Pleiß (Utah Jazz, NBA)
Johannes Voigtmann (Frankfurt Skyliners, GER)

One player still has to be cut, decision will come after the games agains France this Friday/ Sunday.
It will most likely end up being either Vargas or Tadda as both players offer a similar skillset (great defense, limited offense).

Unfortunately, Germany suffered pretty bad luck on the big positions with the injuries of Elias Harris, Daniel Theis (both Brose Basets, GER), Maxi Kleber (FC Bayern Munich, GER) and Maik Zirbes (Red Star Belgrade, SRB) as well as the decline of Tim Ohlbrecht (Yenisey Krasnoyarsk, RUS). Would have been the strongest frontcourt for the Germans in years. Now the backup positions to PF and C are the weak links in the team.

Nevertheless, what do you think Germany can achieve this Eurobasket?
Group play is deadly with the likes of France, Spain, Italy, Turkey and Iceland in the group. Iceland of course is a must-win, game against Italy and Turkey could go either way, Spain and France are reaches.
At least the team has been able to beat both Italy and Turkey in preperation games with major players missing (Nowitzki, Pleiß vs. Italy, Schröder vs. Turkey).
Goal gotta be to survive the group stage and finish at least 7th to qualify for the Olympics qualifier.

They will achieve absolutely nothing as evidenced by the game against France today. France had a 31 to 0 run at one point.
THIRTYONE TO ZERO.

Dirk is clearly in the twilight of his career. And he has never been a defensive game changer. Unfortunately, the team lacks everything at this point.

Schroeder, Schaffartzik, and Gavel is a good guard rotation. Also, Giffey could help in the back court. Benzing, Zipser, Pleiss, and Giffey could potentially be a fairly solid front court rotation along with Dirk.

Then they have some role players that come from similar type roles in their club teams. Guys like Vargas and King that can play as role players and help just in the system and so forth. They can basically fill same type things they did for ALBA when they are in the game. Not going to give much production or anything, but they can contribute as system and team role players.

The main thing I see is that Pleiss, Benzing, Zipser, and Giffey will have to play well for them to be successful. But Germany actually has quite a bit of material to work with. They are far from lacking everything. In terms of talent, it's much better than their usual teams are.

Biggest difference between them and the other good teams in their group is depth. The other teams are a lot deeper than Germany is. But that does not necessarily mean they could not do OK. Macedonia in recent years really only had maybe 7-9 guys and they did OK with that.

For people still talking about the NCAA being superior to the Eurobasket, Italy just crushed Michigan State 90-69 without Bargnani and Gallinari.
the obscure Achille Polonara went for a 17-11rebs double double...
the times, they are a-changing

Only the biggest morons believe that, they don't even worth acknowledgement.

If I am not mistaken, this is not the first time Italy played NCAA team. I think 4 years ago they played BYU, and Bargnani grabbed like 20 rebounds against them :D
