2.03 Million Viewers Watched the Jays on Friday

Not sure if this is thread worthy, but it broke a Sportsnet record so I thought it was worth posting. Pretty crazy, it broke a record held by a Leafs/Habs game which says a lot.

Holy crap, that's a ridiculous number.

If Rogers doesn't spend the money on Price now, I'm gonna be extra pissed at this ownership.

Listening to PTS and they are saying 3.1 million were tuned in during Tulo's final at bat of that game. That is crazy.

The number actually peaked at 3.14 million in the ninth inning when Tulo had that epic at-bat against Miller. Crazy.

These numbers are obviously wrong. The Jays only get $25 million a year or so for broadcast rights and other teams like the Rangers, Angels, Sox and Yankees get well over $150 million per year.

So either the Jays are drawing 10000 viewers per game only or those other teams are drawing 20 million viewers.

It can't be because Rogers is cooking the books

Not sure if you meant to add green font on that but the Jays are getting $25 million in broadcast rights from the company that owns the team.

There is actual bidding going on for the rights of other teams, there really isn't for the Jays.

I wonder if Rogers wants a refund on the NHL deal? :)

Sorry I thought it was obvious... that the Jays are only drawing 10k viewers per game. These ratings are a big media lie.

I think they regretted it when We the North happened. Even the radio guys hate talking hockey

It's really alarming how many people are talking about the Jays. Everywhere I go people are talking about how well they're doing, and I live in Newfoundland.

If those are the numbers now what will they be in 6 weeks if they are in a position to clinch the east, 3.5?

I don't know the numbers in other markets but other than nationally televised games on ESPN on sunday night I bet that is far and away the biggest rating for a baseball game.

If Rogers keeps this team together they'll be looking at huge numbers for the next few years, obviously not 3 million all the time but numbers big enough to justify 7 years 224 for Price.

I know it may be hard to believe for some of the younger posters on here but there was a time the Jays were bigger than the Leafs in Toronto.

Hockey still does big numbers but the problem is the demographic. Lots of young people love the NHL but their piece of the pie in that 18-49 demographic is not what it used to be. Ask a 30 year old Canadian what sport he cares about and you'll get varied answers. Ask 50 plus year old men you won't. It's hockey hockey hockey.

Hell my favorite league overall is the NFL and we don't even have a team.

Family from Manitoba are visiting here next weekend and they have tickets to Tigers and Indians games. Was #1 on their to-do list. I was in Ottawa recently visiting friends and it was all Jays talk.

Rogers will still find a way to justify reducing the payroll again this offseason. They'll blame the falling Canadian dollar and lack of big TV deal (lol).

Rogers isnt dumb, and they are about the money. I could see them riding a wave of fan support into an off season of mad yankee level spending for a few years. Certainly is a good time to be a jays fan.
