by the terms of having no money? no. But he never was a huge seller. I doubt he ever sold more than 200,000 copies of any album he did. He was the bread winner for his family. Now he is gone. They have bills to pay. What money he does have wont last long. He still lived in Brownsville. So that tells you how much he was making. He did so, so he would not be broke trying to live somehere else. Jay Z, Eminem and countless people have helped, because he is a BK icon and Hip Hop Legend. Only 50 racks was asked for, and he surpassed that in 2 days and is at 85,000.

Man. I'm so sick of speaking with friends that choose to remain ignorant when it comes to hip-hop. How can people say Kendrick sucks? If you have any ear or understanding for hip-hop you have to at least respect him as an artist. My biggest pet peeve are those hip-hop heads that are stuck in the 90's. Rakim and Meth are not coming back. At least open your mind to the new sound. Kendrick is nice with a mic.

It's like they're baffled by the lack of violent behavior...smh, but you gotta love how even today NWA's music sparks a discussion.

Maybe I'm too young to appreciate him but, I've never enjoyed listening to Rakim. Kendrick is nice of course and anybody who discounts that is honestly just a hater. He's certainly not my favorite rapper out there but, I don't think anyone can legitimately deny that the man has serious talent.

It is what it is man. It's called balance. You can't change everybody opinions on music. Everybody has their own ears and opinions on what's good. Also, there's a lot of followers in this world. More followers than leaders. A lot of people like to ride the popularity hype bandwagon instead of discovering or adapting to quality music on their own. I learned that a long time ago. I used to try to convince people to listen to new hip hop artists back in like 08,09,2010. Telling them who was about to be the next wave of artist. They used to call the artists I was telling them about wack. Those artists turned out to be Wiz, Kendrick, Big Sean, CurT@!n$ & a couple others. Now I'm sure their opinions changed since then but it wasn't instant. Point is, there's no point to get angry about. Just rock to what you rock to & enjoy it. Some people have better music ears than others but it's best to let it seem like there's no right or wrong.

Also, Meth is coming out with an album in the next few weeks to counter what you said above. lol

If you don't like Microphone Fiend you agent a fan of hip-hop. Rakim is easily the best of the old guard and by far the easiest to listen to.

In my opinion when trying to listen to the older rap music, it's the beats. People now a days don't want to listen to lyrics over a wack ass beat, it becomes white noise. Me personally I don't agree, but it's how a ton of people feel and it's hard to argue. It's like listening to rappers who spit over Primo and then without him [Hello Group Home] it's not the same.

Lyrically this song is amazing, but does it age? For a lot of people the answer is no...

Just read that the TDE team is holding onto Jay Rock's new album until he reaches a certain number of pre-orders. I actually really like this idea, but Rock might struggle as he may have the least amount of mainstream appeal with his raw gangster style and lack of social medi skills.

Listen to his recent releases. Nothing G about them really and YG sold amazingly well as far as gangster rap goes so he has his obvious market (My Krazy Life peaked at 2 and the title is gang related even). I think it's a terrible idea that shows how little they trust the selling ability of the Top Dawg of TDE. I think if he released the album now people would go get it and if he had a set release date it will sell the same amunt. It's not like he's small time and IMO there's no way he doesn't outsell Ab and he'll probably match or surpass Q as his album should be better. I mean Gumbo and Money Trees Deuce are 2 of the 3 singles and probably 2 of my 5 favorite Jay Rock songs. And 90059 would be top 5 without the terrible ODB impression (it's still a great song). Pay For It is a 5/5 and Parental Advisory is a solid 4/5 too. This album is looking to be too good to have these type of cheap selling tactics especially when most people (like me) don't preorder albums and instead like to listen to the album first.

Either way if this album is as consistent as the 5 releases he's had this year (and last year) this album will be the best of the year (yes I am aware TPAB came out in 2015 as did Compton, B4.Da.$$, DS2, and Beast Mode). He's been hitting triples for a min time for the hr.

Kendrick/Cole>>>Drake>>>ASAP>>>Older music>>>90% of what's on the radio.
My main thing about newer music especially this summer is there's no underground scene. There's just mainstream "everything sounds the same" and a million unsigned artist who flood the internet with their trash mixtape filled with trap beats.
