Re: Around the League
Moose regressed defensively the past 2 seasons with the addition of Dre (and Josh). He's not quick enough to defend most 4's, but is average in the post against opposing 5's. Where he get's hurts the most at the 5 spot is team defense. Where early in his career he at least tried to help out, being continually burned by a lack of rotations made him hesitant to ever leave his man. He's not any sort of rim-protector, so any type of guard penetration is a real threat to score.
As for Illy, yeah he sucks defensively and is probably a step down over Moose. But he won't be playing 36 mpg and hopefully an improved offensive efficiency will at least partially off-set that if not result in a net + for a fraction of what Moose is making.
It's not simply Greg vs. Ersan, but rather about allocation of resources. Nobody doubts Greg is the "better" player, but are we better off by not maxing him and instead making the moves we made? Hell yeah. Will Mil be better with his addition? That one is harder for me to say. If they still had Knight I'd say that's another no-brainer, but that roster could have similar issues to the ones we experienced the last few seasons.

Do you "blame" any player within 3 feet when a dude makes a shot?
What if someone blew a rotation on the perimeter and the guy you're "blaming" has had to cover for that? Shouldn't the guy who blew the rotation get the "blame"?
I love me some advanced stats but numbers alone don't mean much to me
add that most of here watch a lot of piston games. We know what he's good and bad at defending. What i find interesting about moose is every year. for the first 20 games he's so damn active , skying for rebounds, blocking shots, chase downs. Then he starts running like a old man. ..............

They did get a good deal on him, especialy if they utlize him more and he keeps growing (which he should).

Ya they did except that they a bringing him a long at the slowest pace possible. It really confuses me how they keep him out of games. Probably has to do with BBall IQ

Re: Around the League
Has more to do with Lowry, DeRozan and now Carroll being the offensive weapons.
Here you have a guy that is very capable of more but he's getting frozen out by his team.
$60 mil should keep him happy as the 4th option, even though he should be higher.
Inside-out, not outside-in...
The Raptors are counting on chuckers IMO. That's not ideal

Lowry is not what i'd call consistent, DeRozan is underrated mostly because defense has little value perception wise, and Idk bout Carrol. He's decent, but i don't see him on the George, Leonard level of SF's. You can't teach height, and most certainly takes time to teach skill. Val has a good combination of both.
What i am more suprised about is that no one offerd his agent more.

Uh, no one CAN offer his agent more. He was drafted a year before Drummond, but he was stashed for a year, so he has a year left on his rookie deal, just like Andre. His agent might have heard rumors about his value next summer, and I'd think it'd be more than 4/60, but there's the whole job security and injury insurance thing by getting it signed now. Not that surprising, although I think his lack of touches is keeping his point total down and if I were Val, it would piss me off.

When enes kanter is getting the max, Val most surely should. His agents a idiot. I do understand the not risking injury part. i don't understand signing a extention when the tv deals about to kick in.

Agree 100%
Next off-season plenty of teams will have MAX room and someone is bound to be desperate
I think that's another reason why SVG did his remake now - won't be super desperate to change the world next off-season.

Surprised Will Bynum is playing in China again. Solid spark off the bench that should be able to find a home here. Guess he really loves playing and wants to be a starter.

Agreed. It's funny how some players just can't stick in the league, despite having obvious talent. Bynum isn't a starter, but he's more than capable to be your third PG or an underqualified backup on the cheap. It's not as if he's ever exhibited locker room problems either.

not having a jump shot will forever hinder his career. He could be a very good poor mans version of Isiah thomas

Don't want it to happen like this but I guess we dont have to worry about charlotte any more. MKG was the anchor of their tough D.
I came here to do two things: get lost and slice **** up & I'm all out of directions.

Re: Around the League
Charlotte's defense is gonna suuuuuuuuck with MKG out. Batum is a good defender... and that's it, pretty much. if you combined that with a great offensive team, they could be .500 and entertaining, but they aren't that, either.
People are quickly going to see how much having a lockdown perimeter defender matters, because Charlotte is in big trouble now. Even if the offense isn't what I hope it is in a couple of years, KCP and Stanimal are going to help us a ton in that regard.

There were some pretty crazy stats posted in an article I read when MKG got PAID! Basically he is their D & without him they're ****!
Agree that having KCP & SJ could be key down the road. For all the talk about the league and analytics focused on shots at the rim, lotso 3s and FTs people forget the other team is still playing D and trying to prevent those same shots

Re: Around the League
I still don't get why Indiana is insisting on playing George at the 4. It's just assinine. Against Erson he gives up 15+lbs, and an inch. It's a better matchups as ersons style is more outside but on the block, or trying to crash the boards?
Just stupid. He is going to have injuries all year trying to bang with always bigger guys.
I'm not against playing small ball at times, but George has a slight build.
We'll see how that works out for them I guess.

Speaking of players not sticking in the league, Luigi Datome had 16 points on 4-for-6 from long range, and 5 assists for Fenerbahce (Istanbul) as the team made history in New York in the early hours on Tuesday, holding off the hosts Brooklyn Nets 96-101 at Barclays Center.
