The Giants acquired outfielder Marlon Byrd from the Cincinnati Reds Thursday afternoon in exchange for Double-A right-handed pitcher Stephen Johnson.
Byrd, who turns 38 Aug. 30, is a .275 career hitter with 150 home runs and 660 RBI over 14 MLB seasons.
The Giants will reportedly receive cash in the deal, as Byrd is owed over $2 million for the rest of the season, according to a FoxSports.com report.
Basically got the guy for free, Stephen Johnson wasn't even amongst the Giants top 30 prospects. Good stuff Sabean.
