Jays vs. Angels or Orioles: Wild Card

Post#1 » by North_of_Border » Mon Aug 17, 2015 5:33 am

Looks like if the Jays dont win the division we face either the Angels or Orioles in a 1 game battle. A lot can change but these 2 teams look like they are separating from the crowd.

Question is... Who would you rather face?

I would rather face the Orioles. Mainly because their rotation is questionable. Our big lineup would mash em good. The game would come down to who can outslug the other. Advantage Jays, because we have a better rotation to silence their hitters.... Plus its a better story line to look back on after we win the World Series ;)

Angels are a much more balanced team. Their rotation is capable of shutting down the Jays. The series would come down to who can out pitch the other. Its a close one but i take the Jays. But its very close to call....

Your Thoughts?

I don't see how the Angels are separating themselves from the crowd. I'm actually seeing the Angels starting to fade. They lost Wilson for the year. Pujols has slowed down after that hot start. The rest of their offense mainly just comes from Trout lol. 3-7 in their last 10 and 5-9 in August. Meanwhile, the Rangers have been playing well and are just 0.5 games behind the Angels. They could easily make a big run and pass the Angels within the next two weeks.

The O's look a lot more likely to take the second wildcard imo. I like our odds facing them in a elimination game with Price on the mound in the Rogers Centre though. Like you said, we'd probably mash them too because they don't have an ace starting for them.

I agree, even Trout hasn't been hitting like his normal self probably because of everyone else hitting around him is struggling so he's trying to do too much.

I see the Rays (somehow) making a push and the Angels falling off.

I would like Jose to hit a game winning homerun off of Darren O'Day and then moonwalk around the bases. Where is that option?

It doesn't really matter.

A one game playoff is a coin toss, with a lot riding on the pitching match-up - which you won't know until a few days before the game.

We aren't going to face either because we are winning the division.

There is absolutely no way we overcome Baltimore's winneryness in a one game playoff.

I wouldn't be surprised if Baltimore took the division just because they're Baltimore.

I wouldn't be surprised if either Baltimore or Tampa Bay ran up the middle and snatched it away. I just don't think these Yankees are that good. And the Jays are, well, still a Toronto team. :P

Outside the Cardinals the Orioles frighten me more than any team in baseball.

A one game playoff against the Orioles, even at home with Price pitching, would scare the crap out of me.

The Angels may have Trout, but I'd be more comfortable facing them than the O's or Rays.

Ye im starting to fear the Orioles too. They've been there before and are just heating up now. They could steal the division from the Yanks-Jays easily.
Would hate to face this team in a 1 gamer.

I'd feel a lot safer if O'Day was guaranteed to pitch in that game.

Literally only to Bautista though. He actually owns the rest of our lineup. I think his last appearance against he came in and struck out the side and escaped a bases load jam. Orioles went on to win that game.

Not a fan of this 1 game decide it all setup. Make it a 3 game playoff instead.

He owns the rest of baseball too. One of the best relievers in baseball and another good reason to avoid the Os.

When the new playoff format was introduced, I joked that the Jays will finally end their playoff drought by winning the Wild Card, but instead of going straight to the ALDS, they'll lose the one game playoff.

That might actually happen now. Sad.
