I love this deal.
Wish it was 5/65 though.

The CBA dictates that we'd have to wait till next summer to give him that fifth year. If we wanted to give him 5 years now, it would have to be a max deal.

Cheers for the heads up, it kicks in after this season anyway so he's here for 5 years regardless.
Awesome.

Yup, we've got him till 2020. It's not finalized so we don't know whether there's a player or team option on the final year. I expect it's a player option, since this seems rather light for MKG anyway.

I think he's a loyal guy and hopefully there is no option.
MKG is the guy we will build around (as I've said before)

I dont for the life of me understand why people are so high on MKG. Dude is a role player on a mediocure team at best. I would have payed him no more than 8 mill per and that is 2 mill too much. Another bad signing for us just like KEMBA was.

These are who I want with our picks in order
THEM - Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen
UNCNYC - Arthur Agee, William Gates

Yeah. Waste of cap space. No way we can afford to get Felton next summer.

No other team woulda payed him that much except this team. I woulda traded him for a first rounder if possible.

I don't think MKG is good enough to build around. He can be a very good 2nd or 3rd best player on a team though. Thrilled with the deal.

Definitely good enough to build a defense around. You can really only "build around" guys like LeBron, Curry, Durant, Dirk, etc.
but you're right, if we ever contend, MKG won't be the #1 guy unless he truly explodes into something that none of us expected.

Re: Motor Keeps Going: The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread III
the worst part about the NBA is you have to have a superstar (usually more than one) to contend and there are so few of them. unlike in sports like baseball where any one of the playoff teams could win the WS

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist’s decision to sign a four-year, $52 million contract and stay with the Charlotte Hornets instead of becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer was simple. Since being drafted by the organization 2nd overall in 2012, he’s fallen in love with the place.
“I want to be in Charlotte,” Kidd-Gilchrist told The Jim Rome Show. “They drafted me, and they’ve always been my biggest supporter. So I wanted to be in Charlotte, man. I didn’t want to wait.”
The 21-year old is aware if he had waited another season he could have possibly cashed in even larger, but said happiness doesn’t have a price tag.
“It wasn’t about the money or the he-said she-said stuff. It was about what I felt in my heart was right, and I was right, I just wanted to be in Charlotte,” Kidd-Gilchrist said. “I’m staying in Charlotte for the next four years.”
Kidd-Gilchrist also touched on overcoming his speech impediment that has hindered him since childhood and thinks the reason why he’s become an inspiration to kids fighting similar obstacles is because he’s been real about his struggle.
“I’m just being honest. I’m not hiding anything, I’m not making excuses,” Kidd-Gilchrist said. “If you asked me when I was a little kid, I would be an inspiration to other kids I would have said ‘yeah right,’ but now I see the impact that I have in my community for one, but it means a lot to me. It teaches all these kids, and it shows them I mean you matter too, stutter or anything, everybody matters even you, so that’s how I felt.”

Re: Motor Keeps Going: The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread III
^ Good stuff and all, but at the end of the day its always about the money, especially when you're signing your first big contract.
Now if you are old like Duncan and already made a ton thats a different story.

You got a great kid there. I really wanted him to hit free agency so we could grab him. Great kid/great contract.
