Mets acquire Yoenis Cespedes

Post#1 » by RshahNyC » Fri Jul 31, 2015 8:55 pm

Mets get the big bat they need for the remainder of the season for two minor league pitchers (Michael Fulmer and Louis Cesa)

I think its a great deal for the Mets even tho Cespedes is most likely just a rental as they only traded 2 minor league pitchers (NOT MONTERO) and its a position of depth/strength.

Go METS!!!

Somebody else start the thread in the Mets board. I'm a little drunk at some Albanian bar with 26k WiFi.

I'm happy with this deal. Plus, we got to keep Wheeler.

ageed. We get to keep Ces for a play off push and keep Wheeler.

We can trade an ace-two spot worthy pitcher for a more legit batter next year.

Only thing I don't like about this trade is that it makes the Cuddyer signing looks dumb. We could've kept a 1st rounder and used that money to keep Cea for a more long term deal.

So the Wilpon's have to pay out like 30 mil in settlement money this offseason haha, doesn't look like they'll be keeping Cespy unless he works some late season magic.

The Cuddyer deal was never a good deal, they were trying to find some Marlon Byrd magic, but it's not a move a team in the Mets position should have made. That's a playoff team signing a veteran bat that can platoon type of move, not a building team looking for a corner outfielder type of move... Giving up that 1st rounder was a poor idea too because they've shown us how good they've been recently at talent evaluation, including Conforto in the 1st the year before.

So is Conforto the odd man out? I would have liked to see him stick. Kid can rake.

He's cooled down after his hot start, so I think so.

It was expected though.

This team is on fire! 8 home runs and 14 extra base hits tonight against the Phillies to break the team record. A regular murderer's row! Now that David Wright has returned there may not be a way to stop them. I'm hoping that if this continues then the Wilpons will have the money to pay the 30 million and also sign Cespedes.

I love having him now, but I can't stop thinking about the zero possibility of him extending with the Mets. Conforto looks like a good contact/on-base guy for us, but I really want to keep Cespedes's power.
