… and the best case scenario would be for LAL to be not horrible this year, and then totally collapse. That is also unlikely. As you point out, there are asset pieces being assembled. From 2016/17 they will have more cap space than god. And with an escalating tax threshold, I look for a max-player a year over then next two off-seasons.

When Orlando gets the Lakers pick, whether that is 2018 or 2019, I expect it in the 20th range.

Still that is usually were a serviceable bench player can be drafted and in a couple years said player will provide very valuable depth for an upwardly emerging Magic team.

..

You both summed it up pretty well. What are the odds the Lakers get a top 3 pick 3 years in a row? (2015, 2016, 2017) Has to be pretty low.

I do think they convey that Philly pick this year, meaning our pick starts its clock in 2018. I do not think they necessarily become a good team though via FA acquisition. FAs seem way more keen on winning than ever before, and the Lakers organization doesn't have the same reputation it had under Dr. Buss. I think a lot depends on how well Russell, Clarkson, Randle and future picks turn out.

FYI. Magic lost Harkless, a 15th overall pick for basically nothing except a slight chance at a very late 2nd round pick.

which implies that there were either chemistry/lockeroom issues with him or that RH did it as a favor to someone - or both...

...if someone sells another person a car for a $1, is the implication that one person swindled another one - or that there is more to the exchange than the surface appearance of the legal transaction?

Are you creating "Locker Room/Chemistry" issues?

Because, nobody knows of any problems between Harkless and anyone else in the Magic organization.

Unless you got cold hard facts to back that up, please don't state hypothesis.

that's right nobody other than the parties involved know the motivations for the trade...

you are creating a hypothesis based on incomplete information...given the nature of transaction which was as you have indicated "a former 15th pick for what is an unlikely 2nd round pick" should tell you that you do not have all the information related to the transaction.

Ya, that Henny does not have much clout in the NBA to pull off trades on his own unless other teams push the deals.

The Lakers will do very well under the coming financial implications of the forthcoming TV deal. 95% of current NBA players would play in LAL with a 20M a year deal. And LAL might have Three 20M a year deals to offer. Together this means that LAL will have first pick at second-tier MAX players over the next three years. There is no softening that reality.

The Lakers will be a playoff team in 2018.

I actually dont like their core at all. Russell, Clarkson and Randle can't play a lick of defense. I think they'll explore trading options and FAs that will make them play off contenders by then.

Usually yes, but theyve missed out in the past 2 offseasons at the big FAs, indicating that their clout is diminishing. They will spend money. But it remains to be seen if the money is being spent wisely, or is more like the 2009 summer when the Pistons signed Ben Gordon and Charlie Villenueva.
