If healthy, I'd much rather have Calderon than Prigioni. Calderon is a very good offensive player

I can say this as a Knicks fan and a Clippers fan. Don't think the trade helps either team. Calderon is a lateral move. Poor defender who can pass and shoot. We already have Pablo who is similar too. The Knicks won't benefit either it won't make them much better or worse.

Calderon is one of the most consistent standing 3pt shooters. I'd prefer him over Jamal if his playing time was limited to spacing the floor while for example, Lance was handling the ball.

If Jamal is willing to be a spot off shooter I take him 100 times over Calderon the spot up shooter.

Unfortunately, he will never accept that role. Iso ball is his forte(pun intended?).

Have you seen Jamal's percentages as a spot up shooter?

It's actually not that awesome. He shot 57 eFG% last season on 3.7 FGA per game, just 52.3 eFG% on 5 FGA the previous one.

For comparison, Calderon shot 52.2 eFG% on 4 FGA a game last season with all the injuries, but he shot 66 eFG% on 4.4 FGA a game the previous year in Dallas.

If we compare him with Redick, he shot 63 eFG% on 6.3 FGA a game last season, 59.6 eFG% on 5.8 FGA a game the previous one.

Even Paul shot 59.8 eFG% and 60.2 eFG% in the last two seasons.

Jamal was decent last season, but he's not a special catch-and-shooter to make up for all of his deficiencies, imo.

Contigency Plan

Post#691 » by Ranma » Tue Aug 25, 2015 6:44 pm

The one positive for keeping Crawford with Stephenson in my mind is if things don't work out during the season, we could pursue a 3-way deal for Eric Gordon. EJ is an expiring contract for the Pelicans, so Stephenson's team option for next season would afford them another year of cost control for a talented albeit volatile player. Crawford's expiring deal would not appeal to New Orleans, so a 3rd team like the Knicks or Heat would have to be involved.

Obviously, the question is why would a team want Lance if he couldn't cut it with the Clippers. Another would be why would we pursue Gordon when he's proven to be injury prone and not as productive as he was initially projected. It's just a personal preference. I felt a trio of BG, CP3, and EJ would have been a true big 3 for the Clippers. Expectations would have to be tempered if this scenario played out, but having E. Gordon initially back up Redick would ease him back into our system as well as allow his playmaking and shooting to jumpstart the 2nd unit.

Stephenson seems to have really committed himself this offseason to improving and rebounding from a lackluster performance this past season, so I actually expect him to be a contributor. Also, if things don't work out, the flexibility of being able to walk away from both J. Crossover and Born Ready after 1 more season, mitigates our risk of having them both on the roster even if it is not ideal.

I would so love to have EJ back as a 6th man, specially now that he's evolved into an elite off the ball option on offense.

Matt, I haven't got the slightest idea about how our bench is gonna work this season, I suspect they can win us any game but they'll also lose us a few. The best option for us I think is if not one of the reserves stands out enough to be in the 6MOY race, but they work out as a unit instead.

I would be happy with that. lets hope it works out that way and the team stays injury free.

How Much for That Birdman in the Window?

Post#694 » by Ranma » Wed Aug 26, 2015 9:57 pm

Barry Jackson, Miami Herald (8/25/15)
### Though there is no absolute edict from owner Micky Arison to trim payroll (and that's beyond Miami's control to a large extent anyway), we're told the Heat still would prefer to lower its looming tax bill, which would be around $23 million if Miami closes the upcoming season with this current roster.

Miami remains willing to dealing Chris Andersen (due $5 million) but hasn’t found much of a market for him, according to an NBA official who has been in contact with the Heat. There has been no evidence/confirmation that the Clippers are considering a Jamal Crawford-Andersen swap that has been raised only as a logical hypothetical by a couple of NBA media members. And though Crawford can't be ruled out for Miami, the Heat is happy with its perimeter depth.

The Heat expects to bring Mario Chalmers to training camp (as opposed to trading him first) but hasn’t ruled out trading him in October or beyond if it can find a taker, something it hasn't been able to do to this point.

I predict Big Baby is returning to the Clippers. It's all just a matter of "when." If Doc re-signs Big Baby right now, the Clippers may have an even larger tax burden, depending on whether he is offered a veteran's minimum value or an Early Bird deal worth upwards of $5.6 million. To lower the burden, the Clippers will have to trade some players.

In other words, once the Clippers have finally figured out what to do with Jamal Crawford, expect Glen Davis to return.

Bath Water to Go with Big Baby

Post#698 » by Ranma » Sat Aug 29, 2015 11:17 am

Of the recent tweets regarding the 3 possibilities for the final roster spot, only Big Baby was mentioned as drawing interest from the Clippers. Ryan Hollins and Chris Singleton only mentioned that their respective representatives spoke with the Clippers with no deal, which could mean that they reached out to the Clippers to no avail.

He should have been a Clipper! Just retired before playing a game.
