NFL, C. Carter: Rookies Need a Fall Guy

At the NFL-sanctioned Rookie Symposium in 2014, Cris Carter told rookies they need to designate a fall guy in their crew to take the heat if they do something illegal. This is the sage advice handed down from a hall of famer at an official NFL event. What do you think? Valuable pragmatic advice that belonged there? Proof that the NFL is cares only about its image and not its players? A lapse in content control? Something that they should quietly whisper to the rookies instead of relaying through official channels?

with Bridgewater uncomfortably standing next to him, Carter told the group to get a "fall guy," as Warren Sapp laughed and agreed. "In case y'all not going to decide to do the right thing, if y'all got a crew, you've got to have a fall guy in the crew," Carter said, as shown on the video. Carter brings Bridgewater to the stage, and he says that Bridgewater is his own corporation, and needs to be protected from any trouble.

"I let my homeboys know, y'all want to keep rolling like this, then I need to know who gonna be the fall guy, who's going to be driving," Carter said. "Y'all not going to all do the right stuff now. So I've got to teach you how to get around all this stuff, too. If you're going to have a crew, one of them fools got to know he going to jail. We'll get him out." Sapp repeated "We'll get him out," and chuckled.

"I know none of y'all going to never drink late, I know none of y'all going to never use no drugs or anything, all of y'all going to go to bible study," Carter said in a sarcastic tone. "I realize that - but still get you a fall guy. If you're going to have a crew, make sure they understand, can't nothing happen to you. Your name can't be in lights, under no circumstances. You all understand that?"

Yeah, Teddy Bridgewater looked like he just wanted to get the **** outta there. Anyways, I have 4 points I'd like to make:

1: I thought that Goodell cared about the integrity of the game.

2: Wasn't CC on his high-horse a few months ago blasting the Patriots, talking about honor or integrity or something like that?

3: When Warren Sapp agrees with you on something, then your opnion is wrong.

4: Where was Aaron Hernandez's fall guy?

Warren Sapp speaking at the Rookie Symposium? Sounds like something from The Onion. And somehow Carter comes out looking worse. It is good advice (sadly), but what a moron for sharing that publicly.

It’s not the kind of advice I would offer young people. I would never tell young people to break the law or avoid prosecution.

He should have told them to cut ties with your entourage, stop trying to take care of all your boys, and grow up.

Don't keep the youngsters down, elevate them.

Yeah, the better advice would be:

Stop associating with people that would bring you down or get you into trouble, because you have too much to lose. It's the same advice my dad gave me when I started college, hung out with some potheads, and got into a bit of trouble with weed as a result...and I was just a Bio major with good grades at the time...these are NFL players with literally millions that they could potentially lose if they go down the wrong path.
