I think the optimum solution to minimize our spacing problems in the starting lineup is to pull MKG off the floor for Lamb fairly early to let him play more with the second unit. It would accomplish several things that would be beneficial to our team. One it would provide more spacing for Jefferson to go to work, two it would add some needed defensive punch to our second unit, and three MKG would be playing with 2 bigs that can shoot the 3 - Hawes and Kaminsky - leaving the lane wide open for him to take advantage of his slashing game.

Lamb
MKG
Kaminsky
Hawes
The last benefit in particular could do some amazing things for MKG's game.

Re: Your Projected Depth Chart
I like it. It benefits MKG, it adds much needed defense to the second unit, adds more spacing with the starters. Yeah, makes sense. MKG will still get his minutes in various lineups.
This would also allow Lamb to see more time next to Kemba. I think Lamb would also benefit from playing with the starters some.

I was thinking about this exact same thing the other day. 2nd unit has tons of spacing and MKG helps cover the defensive flaws of that unit.

I really hope Lamb and Hawes don't suck. Our second unit could be killer if they discover their games and play at a high level this season.

Re: Your Projected Depth Chart
I think a Kemba-Batum-MKG-Zeller-Hawes lineup could be interesting at times. We'll probably end up seeing that lineup when Al inevitably misses some time. Hawes would add more spacing to our starting lineup while keeping our three best defenders out there.

I'm really confident both of them will be in our top 9 rotation. Marvin will be our 10th man and the next guy up if someone gets hurt or gets in foul trouble. Hansbrough will probably the 11th man. The rest of our team will get sporadic minutes unless Lamb disappoints, and in that case either Hairston or Daniels will get his spot.

Batum
MKG
Zeller
Jefferson
Lamb
Lin
Hawes
Kaminsky

Interesting. What about subbing in Lin first instead of Lamb since Cliff said he wanted to play Kemba and Lin together, and Lin had some success doing that alongside Beverley and Clarkson. That would still allow you to have the Lin/Lamb/MKG/Kaminsky/Hawes unit later on.

Beverly and Clarkson could both play off the ball and so can Lin. Kemba however can't play off the ball, so it limits the opportunities having two ball handlers on the court at the same time would bring. Clifford is showing a poor awareness of Kemba's limitations if he doesn't understand that he needs the ball to be effective. It would work better than the Kemba/Lance pairing because Lin can shoot, but after taking into account defense I don't think it will prove to be an effective pairing unless we're playing a team with a small backcourt.

My bet is that Kaminsky starts to balance shooting/passing. If not that means a poor shooting 1st unit and an odd rotation pattern. Ideally Al and Kemba would sit first, but Clifford needs to sit either Batum or MKG by around 4:00 minutes so he can spell the other to begin the 2nd quarter. I think the goal is to play most of the game with 1 of them on the court.
