Waiver Wire Watch

Post#1 » by benchmobbin02 » Sun Aug 30, 2015 11:47 pm

From another forum I'm on, Cleveland has some guys in the secondary that have talent that might get cut. Johnson Bademosi, Justin Gilbert (I know...), Jordan Poyer, Landon Feichter. Any could make our 53 I think. I like Feichter and Bademosi.

I know it was a long shot but Det is keeping RB Zenner. They cut Winn and Leshoure (finally).

I've seen nothing better (for us) than Jennings yet, though the Fred Jackson cut was interesting. He'll be a Pat or a Brown most likely, though I could see the Ravens, Panthers, Cardinals, and Falcons get involved

Jenning is just the biggest name out there right now. Think we'll have to wait til next week for better players to be cut. Jennings has skill coming off great years in 2012 and 13 but really fell off last year and the years started to show. In a defense where more than 50% of the time he will be asked to play man to man, he is BBQ chicken as Shaq would say. He is 5'8 185lbs 32 yrs old. He needs to be in a cover 2 zone to have a shot at being effective.

Fred looks like a classic Pats pickup for a one year deal tho i think it's more realistic I can see him retiring. The two teams that would make sense to me are DAL and NE. DAl has said they have not interest "at this time". NE is pretty set at HB with Blount Bolden Gray Cadet (i think he is sleeper) White and Lewis. CLE may have an interest but I have a feeling Fred doesn't want to lose a ton of games if this is his last run.

Thompkins has been cut as well.

2 guys who really failed to impress in OTAs and Preseason. Looks like Dyer and Taiwan are fighting for the 3rd RB role, which I assume will go to Dyer. Taiwan is fast but has 0 wiggle to it

We're now down to 85: Fajardo, Dowling, Eatmon, Thompkins, T-Rich have all been cut/waived

I think that's all we'll see as far as surprises go.

I was holding out hope because Tompkins performed well in offseason camps but couldn't make plays when it counted for him in preseason. Not all were his fault as Carr and Ponder let some throws get away from them that could have helped him if they were on target. With him gone, Butler move into lock for the 53 territory along with Cooper Crab and Streater. Roberts and Durham need great weeks to survive and push Holmes for the 5th spot IMO.

Jones and Dyer should both make the roster. Grabbing a back we are surprised got cut or waived, really not trusting Jones to be the punt returner or wanting to put Dyer on the Practice squad and increase Reece's touches are the exceptions to that. I agree Dyer is a more prototypical HB but he is no where near ready for the NFL IMO.

Speculation that he could be taking Sio's roster spot...

BTW, as pointed out by Vic Tafur, no real point in signing this guy now unless you plan on keeping him for ST. And if that is true, and he does play as a backup LB, stands to reason that Sio and Ray Ray are competing for a roster spot just as much as a starting spot.

I don't think so. The reports of Sio having friction with the coaches is false per Vic. Yesterday on his twitter account he suggested there wasn’t much to it. Del Rio said they’re not playing Sio right now only because they want to get a look at other guys.

"…Del Rio on Sio Moore: "We’re playing the guys that we need to get a look at."

I see Lofton and Smith as locks. I can see Heeney, Armstrong and Alexander all playing for a spot this next game. Armstrong still hasn't shown much from his solid play in mini camp to say he would be a solid starter and has been lacking in special teams as well. Heeney is still raw but shows potential. Alexander provides a steady guy they can trust to handle his assignment and excel in special teams. I can see Moore starting the season on short term IR and returning after game 6 but I don't see him cut at all.

But as always, non of us knows til the shoe drops.

Sio Moore traded to Colts per Levi Damien for a late 2016 draft pick. Hope we got a 5th for a great Raider that ran into some poor luck on the injury side and bad timing with a coaching change. I still believe he will be an effective player and he fits the mold of the type of LBs Indy goes after.

Now the question is does someone offer us enough to let go of Seth Roberts? I would think it has to be player for player this time...Tackle or CB or RB

Raheem Mostert, arguably the 2nd most impressive preseason RB behind Zenner, waived by Eagles with hopes of squadding him. I'm down to dash those hopes. Dyer looks average with nothing that really stands out, we can squad him with ease if we like him. Taiwan is a special teams body and gadget player, not a guy who can step up and be a legit back if we need it. Deserves a look, hope we get him.

I say keep him. Streater is not a great bet to stay healthy, nor is Holmes, and none of the other WR have done anything of note. Right now I think we should be flipping a coin between Holmes and Butler.

Were you watching the games? haha Butler far outplayed Holmes and stayed healthy his whole time with the team if I recall correctly. Roberts and Butler have earned 3 and 4 WR duties. Streater probably gets 3 due to past deeds but I don't except it to last in the season. I also am in favor of keeping Roberts unless we just can't refuse an offer.
