The Patriots May Still Take A Step Back In 2015 Even With Brady On The Field

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will be able to play for the Patriots in their season opener next Thursday after Judge Berman overturned the 4 game suspension. As a result of Tom Brady being allowed to play for the whole season some people in the media have instantly proclaim the Patriots the favorites to win the AFC. But in opinion the Patriots are schedule to take a step back even with Brady on the field due to the amount of talent they lost on defense (Vince Wilfork, Brandon Browner and Darrelle Revis) this offseason. Due to the amount of talent lost the Patriots have to make adjustments on defense.

Last season the Patriots safeties only had to worry about 3/4 of the field because they knew that Darrelle Revis could handle the number 1 wide receiver in man-to-man coverage by himself that allowed the safeties to help out the rest of the pass defense depending on the matchup. However going into this season the Patriots safeties wont have that luxury as the Patriots top corner is Malcolm Butler a guy who hasn’t faced top wide receiver on a regular based yet. As a result I expect the Patriots to put a safety over the top throughout games to prevent him getting burned by a wide receiver constantly. Which means the rest of the pass defense is affected for instance if the other corners also need help from safety that means that a portion or all of the middle of the field is wide open due to a tight end facing a 4th corner or a linebacker without help.

The Patriots are also are going to take a step back when it comes to there run defense because they don’t have Vince Wilfork to occupy two offensive lineman which allowed a linebacker or lineman to get into the backfield after beating his offensive lineman or gaining free lane. Now the opposing offensive line can spread their attention to everyone and diminish the amount of times The Patriots gain free entry in the backfield.

No matter what kind of stats Tom Brady puts up that defense will lose the patriots some games

This will not bode well with Froob and company.

I mean, they're obviously a weaker team this year than they were last year, mainly on the defensive side of the ball. But when you have an elite QB like Brady, you're always in the mix. And you know that regardless of his defensive personnel, Belichick is going to have a solid defensive system in place that will allow serviceable players to come in and fill a role.

Brady-Gronk-Edelman is still a hell of an offense...I'd go as far as saying it's unstoppable. Nobody in the league has had an answer for a healthy Gronk.

People will be surprised. The front 7 has a lot of talent in it, and Butler/TBrown will surprise people as the starting CBs. The pass rush will be lethal this year, something the team lacked last year.

Ninkovich, Jones, Sheard, MBrown, Branch, Siliga, Easley, Collins, Hightower, and Mayo will all be at Belichick's disposal. The secondary is unproven yes, but the talent is there.

Defensive line should be better this year than 2014. Cornerback losses are inarguable though.

I actually tend to agree, but I also usually get proven wrong when I say things like this about the Pats. We'll see how things look after four or five games, then I'll make the call.

I definitely think they take a step back, just because their defense and secondary will be worse. They may again win the division by default, but this year Miami and Buffalo will be on their heals. If Buffalo had a solid QB, I might take them to win it. I think Rex Ryan is a damn good coach. If Tyrod Taylor (if that's his name..I think so) can have a Russell Wilson type breakout (yeah, I know that's rare) then they could surprise. He must be pretty good if they are starting him over known serviceable qbs.

they're still winning the division but in the playoffs these loses will hurt

Hey disabled. You may be disabled, but your mind is right! Be strong and dont allow the patriot fans to cry you into changing your mind. I believe you may be correct, but they will try to weasel their way in and sway you with faulty opinions and graphs, charts and pythagorious rhythmic, non sensical pi type imagery.

Your mind isn't right. Every Pats fan in here has said they agree they took a step back because of the losses on defense.

You're kind of funny when you're doing your thing in relation to something like Brady's suspension, but the rest of the time you just look plain stupid (not that you don't look stupid in the Brady threads, but at least they are more apt for your kind of schtick).

How you weren't on my ignore list previously is beyond me, I guess I like to rubberneck at car crashes, but the time has come for you to be on it. Good day sir.

Dude, you actually said "denial is not a river in Egypt" in the Brady thread. That is something children say. You lost this round. You even said you did. Maybe chill for a bit? You're just embarrassing yourself.

Also, Disabled Sports makes lots of great posts and I don't think he's some crazy anti Patriots person like you.

Again, you have 100s of posts on Brady in a span of months, likely more than a bunch of us Pats fans combined, you are the one constantly jumping out of your shorts. 100+ posts. You love Brady more than I do.

You have actual proof of this right?

And the 1 million in penalties, 1st round pick, and 4th round pick is absolute bull, because they weren't levied against Brady anyway! They were levied against the owner and the coach, who the NFL considered innocent from day 1! Why are you so happy about that, that the NFL punished innocent people? You really think that's warranted...that it's right?

Can't believe how biased some of you are. If it was your team that got fined and lost draft picks when their management was found to be totally innocent, pretty sure you'd be throwing a hissy fit. But here, you're casually throwing it around when it happens to the Patriots, like it isn't a big freakin' abuse of power by the NFL, and something that ALL fans should be worried and upset about.

whoooa, pull them reins back and slow that horse down! Your owner agreed and accepted those terms and penalties! Bill belichek said "ASK THE QUARTERBACK". Those fines and levies were, according to many of you Patriot fans these past few threads, these fines were not the organizations fault. Therefore, THIS IS ALL ON TOM!
But lets all go down to the bar and cheer..."HOOORAAAY TOM! I WUVE YOU TOM! THANKS FOR GIVING MY FRANCHISE 1 MILLION DOLLARS IN FINES! YIPPEEEE, YOU SHOWED ROGER SOMETHIN DIDNT YOU!" As Ocho Cinco used to say, child pleeeeeeze!
