OT: Places to eat around Orlando

Post#1 » by NEM » Sun Sep 6, 2015 8:15 pm

This is way off topic but the post was inspired by a date my wife and I just had. We went to Bosphorus Turkish cuisin on Park Ave. I had probably the best dish I have had in a long time while eating out: Lamb shank with rice pilaf. The meat literally fell off the bone.

The reason I made this post is to see what places other Magic fans went out to eat around town? I know it's way off topic, but hey it's slow around here so might as well..

East Coast Wings, the best wings in Orlando! They have 75 flavors, and other foods of course. Chuy's Mexican is also a favorite of mine.

My wife and I went to that Turkish place on Park Ave when I was in town visiting family last spring. Loved it.

My favorite place when I lived there (I left about a decade ago) was an Argentine steak place on Lake Underhill called Choo Choo Churros.

That place looks legit, next time I'm in Orlando i'll make a stop.

I did just recently do a Disney trip and went to Animal Kingdom or Busch Gardens light as I like to call it.
I visited the Bull and Bear steakhouse located inside Waldorf resort and that was one of the best meals I had in a long time.
It is quite pricey but well worth it since the food and service is top notch. Also at around 10pm you get to view the fireworks.
Definitely a place to take your lady to :)

Sorry bro but Johnnys Filling Station has not only the best wings in town, but the best burgers! It's a must-try if you happen to go by Orange Ave and Michigan St.

I've never gotten the big fuss over Valdianos. I've had Bosphorous once and it was pretty good.

Sushi: Bikuri is my favorite sushi spot in Orlando (near downtown on 50). Amura is great because you can take people who aren't big sushi fans and there's a good selection of bento boxes, or hibachi.

Mexican: Paco's is damn good. I also like Amigos which has a few spots (Altamonte, Waterford Lakes)
Cuban: Black Bean Deli (Winter Park and Orlando/50), Za Za Cuban Diner (Conroy)
Colombian: Super Rico downtown is fantastic

Pizza: Rigazzi's in Winter Park is pretty good, though honest I'm a Papa Johns fan, lol
BBQ: 4Rivers (Winter Park, though theres one by UCF too), Pig Floyds is amazing (they're catering my wedding in February), they're located on Mills Ave, Kellers in Lake Mary is great
Fried Chicken: The Coop (Winter Park)
Asian Streetfare: Hawkers is great (Mills Ave)
Italian: Terra Mia in Longwood or Lake Mary is great
Brazilian Steakhouse: Nelore (Winter Park) is cheaper but nothing beats Texas de Brazil
Burgers: Oblivion Taproom on 50/Colonial near Fashion Square, hands down IMO. It looks like it'd be a biker bar but it's got amazing food and great beer. They also have great wings. Also good burgers at BurgerFi and Graffiti Junktion.
Indian: Honestly the only place I ever go is Memories of India in Lake Mary for work. Delicious food.
Brunch: Kekes, Briar Patch, both in Winter Park (though Kekes has other locations).
Hibachi: Amura is good, but nothing beats Kobe Steakhouse (pronounced like the beef by the way, not like Kobe Bryant).

Some other great places to check out: Tako Cheena (Mills 50), The Porch in Winter Park, Cask & Larder

The one thing I really can't find anything great for is Chinese food. I'm sure i'm forgetting some great places.

I'll second Amigo's and Kellers. Both are fantastic. There an Amigos in Altamonte, the original which is always great. Another gem for Bbq is Uncle Kennys in Clermont at the Citrus Tower. Pizza is totally subjective. My fav in Central Florida is Stavros and Sons.

I always go to Pho 88 off Mills Ave and grab their grilled Pork rice plate, one of my favorite spots.

Briantinos in Avalon Park makes some of the best Philly cheese steaks I tasted since experiencing them in Philly

Also, Juniors' Colombian burger off Kirkman is awesome too.

I'm gonna note down these wings places, didn't know where to go for wings.

My list:

Eastern European: Bosphorus
NY style pizza: Papa Anthony's in Casselberry off 1792 next to Publix
Wood fire pizza: Prato in WP or if you drive to DT deland, Forno Bello is amazing
BBQ: Since Sonny's re-did their recipes due to competition from 4R, they're real good now. Otherwise, 4Rivers has always been good.
Cajun: not much to choose from, but Tibby's is authentic Cajun cuisine and it tastes great.
Vegan: ethos
Sushi: there's a little hole in the wall in Casselberry. It's called hibachi express. The staff are kind of dix, but the food is good.
Cuban: I love black bean deli, but Cubans on the run in Casselberry gives them a run for their money. If you go there, order the tripleta... Wow!
Burgers: used to love 5 guys, but the burger game has really stepped up the last few years. Dexters is good, but I love burger fi. Shake shack is also decent, but they're really overpriced.

If your looking for a good sub. Laspadas on Lee Road are the best I've ever eaten. Amazing in fact. If your looking for a cheesesteak, it is the measuring stick in Orlando

If you like authentic German Food, head out to Willow Tree in Sanford. The live entertainment at night is also epic there with many drinking games. Usually, there is a good sized wait list every day of the week.

As far as best Burger in Orlando, I go with Johnny's Fillin Station (just a mile or two south of downtown). Their Bacon Blue Cheeseburger is epic.

Meditaranean Blues just a mile or two south of downtown for best Gyro's as well.

La Fiesta Mexican Grill just a mile or two southeast of downtown has the best Fajita's all time .

I live walking distance from Johnnys. Been there numerous times, trust me, East Coast is better as far as wings.
