I think the way this is rounding out, is that we want Mexico to beat Argentina, and if we win the rest of the way, Argentina, Mexico and Canada should all end up 6-1. Since Mexico beat Argentina, Argentina beat us, and (hopefully) we beat Mexico, I think point differential comes into play, which we should win handily, giving us first place and avoiding either of those teams in the semifinals.

This Mexico/PR game is good
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth

Yes, that is the scenario I am hoping for as well. But the tie break would be the point differential in the head-to-head games, not the overall point differential. So, having lost to Arg by 7, we would need to beat Mex by at least 7. E.g., Can beats Mex by 10, and Mex beats Arg by let's say 12, we would win by being +3 in those games, Mex would be second at +2, and Arg 3rd at -5.

But I am getting ahead of myself. Still plenty of games left, and it would not surprise me if Mex and/or Arg loses tomorrow.

True, but you have to consider the team he was playing for.

That means full-court pressure for 48 minutes and five-man substitutions every two minutes. Arseneault also advises his players to treat the shot clock as if it were only 12 seconds instead of 24. He wants layups and 3-pointers. Midrange jumpers are to be avoided at all costs.

“You’re still going to have people discount the offense because it can look like a video game,” Lee said. “But when it comes to his shooting ability, none of this is a fluke.”

With teams being able to dress 13 guys and regularly only playing 9 guys anyway, it seems there would be value in having one or even two Heslip types on the bench just for shot-clock-off offensive sets at the end of quarters and games.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

The last post game had Maurizio Gherardini, forgot about his involvement with the program.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

Wow, I had no idea. His spanish is far from perfect but it was still a pretty good interview. He did spend his entire career in areas with large latino populations so I guess he was able to learn and practice a bit.

Based on my number crunching a Canada win paired with Mexico beating Venezuela later tonight would effectively clinch a semi-final appearance for Canada. There would still be 1 wild scenario involving both Venezuela and the Dominican winning out with the DR beating Canada by at least 13 points that could potentially leave Canada out - but assuming that doesn't happen - a Canada/Mexico sweep tonight essentially punches Canada's ticket.
