It's a risky move, but with the minor league season over with they don't have any other options for giving him work.
I'm not optimistic, because as you say he was just lambasted (3 IP, 4BB, 8H) in his sole Buffalo start. This may be a "sacrifice a game or two in September in the hopes of him being back to normal come October". That's an extremely risky move given how important these September games are.
I think they can send Stroman to Lansing to pitch in their playoffs...but with Buehrle both struggling in Yankee stadium and also evidently a little banged-up, there's really no choice but to start Stroman, comfortable or not :/

I'm a million times more comfortable sending a shaky Stroman out there on Saturday than this current version of Beuhrle.

... given how important these September games are against the Yankees.

His performance in rehab games is essentially meaningless. It's more about how his leg felt, his velocity, his mechanics, etc.
I'm not sure whether he's ready or not, but when he's healthy, he's the 2nd best starter on the team, so if he's ready to pitch, then start him.

Well with Stroman taking his spot, it's fairly likely that Buehrle isn't going to make 200IP this year, which will be the first and only time he doesn't make it in his entire career (I don't count the rookie late season call-up to start). He's 25.2IP away from 200 this year and with Stroman taking one and likely not getting hooked after one start, even if they went to 6-men there are only a few ways that Buehrle could get 4 more starts (he could bump Hutch on the road in Atlanta and that might get him enough), the minimum he'd need to get the 25.2, but not a lot of ways. I'm not saying that should be Gibby or AA's primary concern, but if Buehrle comes back to the rotation and gets within a reasonable start's innings of 200, it's going to be a pretty tough way to miss going out with that record intact.

Rehab starts are more about feel for your pitches than results. From the reports of the game, Stroman was shaking off pretty much every single pitch from the catcher. It's also a time where you throw pitches to specific locations and Stroman really wouldn't be looking to nibble to a hitters weakness more than hitting his desired spot.
So if Stroman wasn't to test his Fastball on the upper inside corner, he could throw a bunch of fastballs there to successive hitters and he doesn't really care if he gets hit. He just wants to make sure he gets it in a good location and he likes the movement of the pitch. Similarly if he's trying to get his offspeed stuff working, he might throw an offspeed pitch in a spot where a fastball might be more desirable but he wants to test out his changeup. He has 6 different pitches he can throw (4-Seam Fastball, Cut Fastball, Slider, Curve, Changeup, and a Sinker). In his first start or two I doubt we see him throw all 6 pitches out there more than a handful of times.

id rather take a chance on stroman than continue to throw someone like hutchison out there... i mean we know what kind of crap well get from hutchy baby at least stro show has the potential to be elite...

Are we still debating whether we should put our 2nd best pitcher back into the rotation?

Ha, so I'm not the only one that was thinking about this since last month. I wonder if Buehrle cares.

Well I heard this morning that Buehrle will take Hutch's turn in ATL, so 4 starts is still likely if he stays in the regular rotation as it's not a real skip, just getting pushed back 2 days.
Even if we were to go to a 6-man from that point forward, Buehrlee can get a 4th start, but it would be scheduled for the last day of the year. That being said, I don't think it'll be 6, but he's still only going to get 4 more in a 5-man crew.
I think they'll wait to see how Stroman does before saying Hutch is out, but now Buehrle every 5th day skips both NYY series. The only thing I would've done differently in all this is put Dickey on regular rest into this BOS series, getting him for the first game instead of last night, which would have him for the third NYY game, letting Stroman's debut slot after Dickey (easiest place to pitch is behind the knuckler IMO) and that would also have put Dickey into the home Yankee series, which I like 'cause the knucklers did screw them up before, it's worth seeing if that continues.
I'm fairly sure not that he went last night it's too late to re-jigger Dickey into both series barring something really drastic. I think they were trying to avoid pushing him back any more and taking Stroman out of an every 5th day routine, so it's not a clear cut decision, but I think I like Dickey getting 2 Yankee shots better.
As for Buehrle, 25.2 in 4 starts is three 6.1IP and one 6.2IP at the minimum. Really, he needs a 7 or 8 inning game against ATL to give himself some breathing room, but for the time-being it looks like he's still got a real shot at it if the cortisone and some downtime can get him ready for the stretch drive.

If Buehrle is hurt, then he's hurt. They wouldn't be giving him extra rest just to give Hutch more starts or anything like that. Obviously missing Yankee Stadium is a good thing given his history. The 200 IP streak is great but you can't throw him out there if his arm is not right and he's struggling. If he gets to 200 IP by the end of the season, then great. Regardless, I think his veteran status pretty much guarantees him a spot on the playoff rotation if they reach the ALDS and beyond (Estrada/Hutch being the odd men out), so the Jays and Buehrle himself should be more concerned with that than trying to reach the innings milestone. Although, I am rooting for him to get to 200 IP. I just want him to do it while performing healthy and effectively.

Re: Gibbons: Stroman to pitch Saturday vs. NYY
Unless Estrada starts pitching worse, it would be a waste if he wasn't in the playoff rotation. He's been remarkably reliable this year, fluke/contract season or not - for some reason he just doesn't get the same run support as other pitchers (Hutch) have received.
Agreed about Buehrle, though, MB. I'm far more concerned with him pitching effectively than hitting his 200 IP, despite rooting for him to hit the milestone as well. If Buehrle doesn't start pitching better and is in the playoff rotation, he's going to get shelled, because he's been really pretty bad for a while now, and if he's hurt, he needs to get healthy.
