Re: LTU NT and JV at the 2015 European Championship
I'm not so sure about some of these calls on Vesely. Last few looked pretty minor contact-wise.
Seems like the refs just decided they had enough of his complaining and called him for any ticky-tack **** they could.

Thy teach tactics and never teach creativity, don't let make mistakes to learn, etc.

Jonas is +12 but only played 17 minutes, and just got subbed out with 8 to go. I wonder if he'll get back in.
EDIT: He's back..

Jonas while being ill and dehydrated still dominated Vesely.

JV gotta recognize the wing defender sinking to help middle and not force it there. Spin away baseline, or faceup and shoot a jumper.

Dwane Casey must be laughing his ass off at these Lithuanian guards at the end of games.

23.5% FG (4/17) and great decision making
i don't know how he still has so much free reign. Shame LTU has no one better to handle the ball...maybe it's time to try Juskevicius just for the hell of it
edit: nevermind, he's not on the team. Call him up! Not sure how much worse he can be than the Kalnietis/Lekavicius combo.

I just hope that playing last ~15 mins half-conscious will not hurt JV's condition

we're the population equivalent of kansas, and jasikevicius only retired 2 years ago.

i'll say this though, for all the offensive troubles lithuania has had, the defense has been very good. watching the italy-serbia game, the tension defensively is nothing compared to what i've been watching.

Isn't it a bit odd that such a small country would produce a lot of capable big men, yet struggle when it comes to a position that is usually the easiest to fill?

As I said. In Lithuania basketball teaching is on an industrial level. Academies compete in tournaments against each other. Coaches from small days train dudes to make plays, learn schemes, etc. They play to win, not play to develop kids in various non-standardized ways, thus we lack creative players and PG has to be creative.

i mean historically we've never had good point guards, jasikevicius is the exception.

Yeah, I just find it a bit weird.

Marčiulionis?
he may have played pg for us occasionally, but he's always been a sg/sf. the fact that he could handle the ball so well made him the ball handler for our national team and the soviets, but it doesn't mean he was a point guard by traditional standards.
