Meh it actually wasn't as bad as I thought considering the reaction. Surprised Jeff let that happen though.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or a serious question, but Claudio Calasans won absolute.

It's the same guy. Calasans = Juninho.

I didn't watch, so I was asking because my buddy texted me that he won absolute, but I thought I saw something that said he lost in the quarterfinals.

Edit: I guess there are a lot of Brazilians with the nickname Juninho, and I'm sure quite a few of them are good at BJJ.

LOL sorry dude I should have known better since it was coming you, but some dudes have poked fun at me for dropping all the brazilian names in this thread in the past. I have never heard of Calasans being called Juninho, I actually don't think I've ever heard of that nickname outside of soccer players. Although to be fair, despite his rejuvenation this year, I feel like most of his accomplishments came prior to me really getting into grappling so I don't know a ton about him. I've only been following it since 2012.

Also, he lost in the quarterfinals of his division to Keenan, that's probably what you saw. Not sure why Keenan didn't enter absolute. Also, Benson decides to enter Absolute and draws Rodolfo first round? God that's rough.

Were you not joking about that standing back take?

I've only heard him called that a few times as well. Convo with my buddy went: "Juninho wins absolute" "Which one?" "Calasans" so you're not alone.

Ironically, 2012 was around the time I stopped training( I've been itching to get back ever since). I was a huge fan of Braulio and Jacare (pre-UFC) because they had similar body types to me. And Tarsis was always fun to watch too.

From here: http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/8/30/9229115/adcc-2015-results-vinny-magalhaes-gilbert-burns-medal-while-benson

There's more of Benson here http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/8/30/9229021/adcc-2015-photos#4820080, where it does look like he got a takedown before it went bad for him. Unless that guy was trying to pull guillotine.

Oh I see. That's from the Absolute bracket. The standing backtake comment I made was in reference to his division match yesterday, that's why I was confused. I would be surprised if he took down Rodolfo but who knows, Rodolfo had previously been in a finals match which lasted like 40 minutes (can that be right?) so maybe he did surprise him.

Overall well known MMA dude results:
Benson - nada
Hector - nada
Vinny - bronze
Burns - bronze

BTW I realize its a few months away, but Benson has some balls to step into the Absolute and face a 215 lb beast like Rodolfo when he has a fight scheduled. Seems like a great way to catch an injury and be our of your headlining ufc match. I guess the notion of putting in all the training time for one short match outweighed the risk.

I just realized right now that I didn't have the last gif embedded in my above tweet. Watch that armbar, has to be sub of the year if not of the last several years.

I remember seeing Davi fight at the Chicago Open in 2011, kind of crazy to think he's reached the highest level since then.

RZ, did you roll with T-Wood? This month sucks for me, I've got like 30% of the month out of town because of work so training consistently will be tough.

That's absurd.

Rolled with Dan three times today. First time we really got to roll together and it was probably the most fun I've had doing BJJ in a while.
