Falling in Love with a roster after Success

Post#1 » by North_of_Border » Thu Sep 10, 2015 10:52 pm

The jays dont need to win the World Series to consider this season a success. I think just making the plaoffs is enough to put the stamp of approval.... Its been 22 years, expectations are just that.

So what do most teams with proven stars on the roster do after experiencing some success? .... They lock up all their proven stars.

The Jays already have Tulo and Martin locked up. We'll see how that looks 2-3 years from now... they might lock up EE, Bautista and at least think of David Price. All these guys are in their prime but also on the wrong side of 30.

An example i would use is the Phillies. They had a star roster and went through some success. As a result they locked up everyone.... Then everyone started to regress and the Phillies were a mess. No farm, over paid vets and well passed their window to compete.... Another example is Detroit, who just entering that phase.

This might seem like a laugher, but if you look at it logically, if the Jays lock everyone up. Its a reality that will happen. We dont wanna go the Billy Beane way, but we should avoid the Amaro way too.

All im saying is, you cant fall in love with your roster. After this season, i hope the Jays make some serious decisions on who to keep.... But also who to let go.

Serious question:

Do you have a serious addiction to starting new threads? This is Day 1 of offseason material not when you're in the middle of a pennant race.

My expectations in every sport are championship or bust. I don't understand how a playoff drought can lower those expectations.

I wonder if he's just good old number15 in disguise, it would explain a lot.

Ok, my mistake. I appologise for making this thread. I guesd its timing is off. Delete it please.

Though some people are treated realgm forums as a professional writers site, and forgetting this is just a fan forum.... A place to talk about topics like this.

This blue jays board is over managed. People need to treat it as what it is... A fan forum

Well we don't have Ruben Amaro as GM so that right there goes a long way to avoiding the Phillies scenario.

If the Jays board feels over-managed, it's largely because locking your excess threads constitutes about 60% of the managing.

My observation is the Raptor board has younger fans with a craving for new discussions regardless of whether a new discussion is merited. I like the Jays board because if there's nothing worth talking about, mostly nothing gets posted. But when the Jays do well, the Raptor fans come over and make threads like this one and Price/Tulo Additions are just psychological advanntage?
