I said they were flip flopping not because of the results of a couple meaningless practice games, but because through training camp McGill was often running with the ones alongside TJ Carrie. And if you think Hayden hasn't been getting torched, you haven't been following training camp where most every day he was getting torched by Crabtree, among others. And in the preseason games QBs are going after him, and completing some big passes. He can play tight coverage, but he has shown no ball skills, so the WR is able to make receptions even when he is closely covered.

All the CBs need to step up (though TJ is already stepping up). But of course there is more of a burden for DJ to step up since he was a high first round pick entering his third season and McGill is a fourth round pick coming off his rookie season and who has only appeared in four games, with one start.

Believe me, I hope the secondary is better than it seems this season. And playing them will at least answer the question of how much the Raiders can rely on them in the future. But people were shocked the Raiders didn't do much in FA or the draft to address the unit and call it the weakest unit for a reason.

McGill has to play bump and run and mess up the receivers route and timing in order to be effective, but I think has some ability to do that.

Man I wish the next Raiders surprise would be to trade for Kam Chancellor - maybe he can play Sunday, too.

"Meaningless practice games" are far influential then training camp reps because you get the chance to see the corners in live action vs real opponents going 100%. A few reports from training camp isn't a full picture of the whole of a players performance. I read all the tweets and blog and site articles and watched all the same vines and gif that you did. Of course showing Hayden getting beat on a double move is good stuff to post but unless we see all the reps we can't say "he is getting torched like we are there and he is getting used on every play.

Yes, Hayden has allowed some catches in games but has played tight coverage and been called for some questionable flags. McGill has had just as many lapses and lack of "ball skill" if not more and has been completely ran by more then Hayden. There is no question that Hayden has been better than McGill this offseason.

They went back and forth in practice but Hayden played better so started every game and will continue to. McGill has the size that is becoming the tread now days but not the skills needed to play starting CB, not yet. Thus he is NOT STARTING. The new coaches don't care where someone was drafted if he isn't the right choice to start. If McGill had out played Hayden he'd be the guy but he isn't.

Trading for Chancellor would push Woodson to the bench, so it wont ever happen. Now if Chancellor were a CB, there'd be a chance..

Just listened to a guy from PFF. He was very negative on most of the Raiders players, including Carr and Latavius. But somehow he predicted 8 wins - I'll take it!

And the "undersung" guy he was high on? TJ Carrie.

The thing I like about getting a stud SS is giving the Raiders more options in the nickel and dime to play coverage.

Hopefully, Lambert passes Asante quickly on the depth chart so in nickel and dime packages we have the option of playing Hayden Carrie Cwood Allen and Lambert.

I know I'm assuming that Lambert is better than Asnate but it's not a stretch, IMO.
