Also the officiating was horrendous. I've never seen this much clutching and hacking since Saw 3. No wonder Tim Duncan quit FIBA ball after the 2004 olympics.

Unfortunately, he'll remain head coach as long as Nash is in charge. And I doubt Canada Basketball will be relieving Steve of his duties any time soon.

Every time Casey makes a questionable decision, I think of how it would be worse if we still had Triano. He makes Casey look like Red Auerbach.

that final play out of the timeout that was mic'd was painful to watch. His communication was atrocious, I was stunned that they actually pulled it off.

He's the best coach there is that I know is available. Only other coach that I hear from people at CB that's better is Mike MacKay but I don't think he coaches anymore.

The coach doesn't have to be Canadian. There are plenty of coaches that'd be interested in the job.

Its one thing if they actually made the call as it happened...but they didn't. They let the time expire, the head ref was calling it a game and then they huddled to discuss it.

You're kidding yourself if CB would hire anyone that isn't Canadian.

Pay an American coach to this team. Watching Triano draw plays during timeouts is tough to watch, its like he can't decide what he wants to do.

I think we know hoe this story goes; here is a reminder of of Jay Triano's defense when he was head coach of the Raptors by Drtg; 22nd, 30th, 30th.

The longer he's there the defense gets worse.

The longer the tournament goes other teams figure out how to score.

We know this story and It's all happening again.

We are the most athletic team in the tournament and we never press, never put in an aggressive zone.

It took him until the game was lost to double team Scola.

He never thought to put Bhullar in the middle of zone with no illegal defense in the pan ams.

It's not simply that the defense is bad it's his bewildering lack of imagination. He's a good designer of offense but as long as he's there were never winning anything. He's an assistant, he's a **** substitute teacher.

Olynyk dribbling up the court thinking that he's magic johnson was what cost this team the game. Sloppy overall

If we can't handle pressure situations like this and beat a team like Venezuela or an older Argentinian team how do you expect to beat all the top Euro teams. Tristan won't put us over the top, Murray will probably skip, we will still have inexperienced players like Lyles it will be essentially the same team. Also, we have to worry about locker room issues/politics coming from such a terrible loss. Is Triano still the coach for us? or should we go out and get a foreign coach?

Maybe this is the experience they need. I am as shocked as the next guy, but a lot of you guys need to chill. Big time disappointment not qualifying here, but they now know to not take any of this for granted. They were out hustled, Venezuela was way more intense and focussed and the refs helped their cause but that isn't an excuse.

it's 2am in London right now, but some quick observations/comments before going to bed

1) Canada didn't deserve to win this game and the players' inexperience really showed. Silver lining is that the players can learn from this experience and hopefully come back stronger next year to give it a shot at qualifying next summer.

2) Are Leo Rautins and Jay Triano the only two individuals on a planet of 7 billion that are allowed to coach the Canadian Men's Basketball Team? He's not a bad coach per se, but his sequences and match ups this game were rather bizarre. If the team falls flat next summer, I think Basketball Canada seriously needs to look at other options and permanently move on from Jay Triano as coach.

3) The refereeing was pathetic in the end. A non-shooting foul with 0.3 seconds left in the game which required video review to confirm that it was indeed a foul. I've never seen a stupider call in professional basketball in my life before and I'm quite surprised that both the players and coaches simply took it as a fact and then walked off the court shortly thereafter. Personally, I would have been livid.

I'm sure you can get a respected college coach or otherwise. Other teams do it all the time, you don't have to have someone from Canada.

Jay is a joke of a coach. No reason for the cis guys to even touch the floor. Nash is a joke gm if he doesn't fire him. We need a real coach. I don't care if he's not Canadian.

Like I said, I work for CB on their women's team and I know for a fact they would never hire someone that isn't Canadian.

He would definitely bring some solid shot blocking something this team lacks. I think it would be tough for the team to cut an NBA player though. This team has enough bigs

I hear Rick Pitino just stepped down as Puerto Rico's coach...

I don't know much about CB's coaching pipeline, but what about Roy Rana? Or would it be that bad to bring on an American coach like Mike Malone (since he was an assistant before)? Just no more Triano; he's not a strong enough personality.
