Harvey's Inning Limit

Post#1 » by Stannis » Sun Sep 6, 2015 1:05 am

It looks like he's agreeing to the 180 inning limit.

If so, he's being a hypocrite. He didn't appreciate the 6 man rotations or his pitch count limit by games. But he's willing to miss the playoffs? I thought he liked the pressure and spotlight?

I appreciate Colon a lot more too now. And I'm hoping Matz will handle the newly added pressure well.

What would you do?

I'd stop starting him. And I'd make him the 7th/8th inning specialist. He asked for the inning limit. But he isn't missing the playoffs.

Another thing that'd piss me off, is that we could've traded him for a serious bat(s) and/or relief pitching. Which would've actually helped us to the World Series.

The time is now. We are losing key players this off season. We aren't going to be better next year...

I still don't think he'd seriously miss the playoffs though.

I never was a fan of Harvey. Don't think he's our best young arm and I think we can get a big bat if we trade him this winter, I'd make it priority one. There's no way Freddy coupon is going to give in to boras or his cheap ways and pay Harvey the 30 mil a year boras will demand. Dump him while his value is high!

I thought he got the spotlight a little quick. I'm not really a fan of the whole "Dark Knight" thing. I'm really not a fan of him now, because instead of the focus being winning games, it's about his inning limit. In our most important games so far, everybody is worried about his inning limit. That's what the SNY commentators were talking about today. The camera kept zooming in on him, even though we had Matz on the mound.

Anyway... Just now, he said if they make the playoffs, he will pitch (not exactly in those words). But I'll believe it when I see it. Athletes are always two-faced. Harvey could very well mean it. Or just said it to get everybody off his back (and still come off as the good guy if the team pulls another September joke job).

There was a tweet that I can't find atm. But it was explaining if you did Boras's "limit" with pitch counts instead, Harvey should be pitching 203 innings.

It looks like the Mets skipped his last start, and the plan now for the remainder of the season is to just have him pitch 3-4 innings and have Verrett finish up 3-4 more innings. That way Harvey keeps his pitch count low but is still pitching opposed to just skipping starts.

In reality, if the Mets knew about the inning limit at the beginning of the season, then they should have been resting him more often, earlier in the year. It makes sense coming off Tommy John surgery. If they screw it up and he can't pitch in the playoffs, it's on them. They have to listen to the doctors. I get that they wanted to make the playoffs, but it's pointless if you can't have one of your top pitchers out there. I do kind of like the idea of him being a 7th-8th inning guy for now, but I really feel they could have managed this situation better from the beginning. You can't blame Harvey for wanting to play or not wanting to miss starts. That's what you want in a competitor. I think he takes too much heat from the media these days. The Mets better not screw this up. My stomach would turn if he were a Yankee next year.

Well lot of the "hate" he was getting was because Scott Boras was speaking for him. It was like watching a kid use a note from his mum to skip gym class. If he spoke for himself from the beginning, things would've better.

Boras was pulling out his charts and tried to prove that the inning limit was required. But he forgot to mention a few things. One, those pitchers he was comparing Harvey to threw much more pitches and much more stressful innings. Two, Harvey got 18 months of rest/rehab, not 12 months like most pitchers. So it really does just like Boras wants to baby Harvey while he's in his cheap rookie contract.

Other doctors have spoken out and said there's nothing that supports this inning limit.

Harvey's doctors already said that using him as a relief pitcher would be more dangerous.

There was conflicting reports. Supposedly Alderson and Harvey's team had a different agreement at the beginning of the season, which is may be why Collins and Alderson decided not to give him rest.

He said he will pitch in the playoffs, and I am glad for that. Nonetheless, the way he handled this situation very poorly.

Also, he's a goner when/near his contract is up imo. A pitcher like him plus being a Scott Boras client, he's going to get a Krenshaw contract. There's no way this team can afford that.
