I'm gonna pull a Sickness

and say we need to trade Vernon Davis ASAP. His value is dwindling by the game. He's lost a lot of his trademark athleticism, and without that he's a very mediocre TE at BEST. Even when run-blocking he's looked soft and disengaged.

He's making 4.35mil this year and next year is a FA, so he doesn't come with a hefty long-term contract. He's a big name and maybe a team thinks they can get something out of him in their run to for the playoffs this year.

We might get a 4th or 5th rounder if we play our cards right and there's a team in desperate need of a TE. I'd pull the trigger on it ASAP. He's not coming back here next year anyways.

The Redskins would have been the perfect place considering he's a Maryland dude. I was intrigued by Carrier's upside.

I say play him out and if he leaves via FA so be it...

Davis of old would kick this new Davis' ass in a hearbeat, miss that intensity he brought. So be it though....

Maybe Detroit would be silly to think of a trade for Davis with Ebron coming back? haha

I don't think I would be totally against it...however I don't know If i'm ready for VMAC/Celek/Bell to be trusted as a passing threat just yet. All 3 are good blockers and haven't shown too much offensive ability just yet. IMO Kap needs Davis as his passing game to the WR sometimes is only Boldin as of now.

I still think Davis last year was an anomaly and while i do not see that same intensity for the game(IMO he has gotten soft) I still think he is primed for a solid year.

If he walks after this year than so be it, i won' t mind if we don't get anything for him as we have some young TE that might be taking some steps soon.

sickness move would have been trade hyde, lynch and bowman.

Trading Davis before everyone else realizes he's lost a step is reasonable than sickness trades.

That's a funny thing about VD - once you assume it's all done with it tends to break out with a fury

I'd see what the Chiefs want for Eric Fisher. Vernon for Fisher straight up. Been saying that since they moved him to RT.

...Although they don't really need a TE come to think about it.

...Was right that the Niners shouldve traded Carbtree after the 2013 season by the way.

.,,And trading JSmith for the right to draft Dontari Poe would've been pretty nice about now too.

That was 2 years ago. The dude is still an average receiver. I knew he was overrated just like Kaepernick was. Should've dumped 'em both.

Exactly. 2 years ago we were trying to win a damn SB.

Despite Carbtree (whom most people here wanted to give a contract in the 8-million-per-year range).

By the way, 5 catches; 37 yards and multiple drops week 1.

Have you not seen Fisher play? Kid is a bum. I watched him week in and week out as he stunk up the joint. Now he is a bench warmer on the team with possibly the worst OL in the NFL. I would rather let Davis play out his contract and not have to have Fisher on the roster.

MOST people here were saying that they would resign Crabs to a reasonable deal, there was a small minority that wanted to overpay.

He's not riding the bench; he's playing RT.

And you could have Vernon play out his deal and go for a compenastory pick. That's fine. Either way, he doesn't have much value any more.

Most people wanted him signed to a long-term deal for 7 to 8 million a year. They called that a reasonable deal for Crabtree.

He sucks.

7 million a year for Crabs isn't reasonable, that's why you didn't see anyone throwing a big fit when we let him walk.

He's not playing RT Jah Reid has started every game of the regular season at RT. Fisher is the primary back up at both tackle spots at the moment. He came in briefly at LT Thursday night when Stevenson got hurt but then went directly back to the bench.

I might also add that Reid was added right before the start of the regular season. The fact that they went out and got this guy, then named him the starter, speaks volumes about Fisher.

He's definitely riding the bench.

Vernon is a victim of Father Time, he is aging rapidly and when you are a player that depends on athleticism then that's no good. However adding Fisher is kind of pointless because he's just not a good player and is under a huge contract.
