After not trying once in the 1st quarter, they went to him 3 times in the 2nd.

1. Kickout for open 3, Maciulis misses.
2. JV settles for faceup jumper immediately, not the best decision.
3. Mid-key deep seal on Pau, Kuzminskas makes the great entry, JV makes FG.

Spain is clogging the paint so will be tough. They're content letting Kalneitis try to score and leaving some open threes. Their defending against Lithuania's strengths.

save this moment though, you don't get to see JV leading his team in assists after 2 quarters every day.

JV is showing a pretty great court awareness in this game. I don't know if I'm the only one seeing this though.

Kazlauskas - JV we wont' be able to pass you the ball if you don't make a good screen.

This is how you need to encourage your player. I hope your'e taking notes, Casey.

Something to note: watch how, in the flow of the offense, JV looks to run quick DHO/screens with the guards from the elbow.

If the defender denies the elbow catch (that would lead to side PnR/P with midrange jumper option), JV looks for the backdoor cut. That's pretty much the only situation I've seen where he has some confidence and ability passing-wise. If neither are available, he goes to the weakside option of a DHO from the top of the key, leading to PnR with JV rolling middle.

Plays can be drawn from this that utilize DeRozan/Lowry/Carroll in a 2-man game with JV.

Ah, the little things hindering JV again. Gotta be smarter creating space in the post or fighting on defense.

Disappointing final. Spain is winning and they're not even breaking a sweat.

Is it me or has JV been making some decent passes this game?

Haha Val had me faked out on that pass. Nice one. High post like Spianoid pointed out earlier.

If I was working on drawing offensive plays, I could think of a few instances from this game that I'd use to put JV in playmaking position. Can't be any worse than an isolation, given the many options that could arise.

I've been pushing for any semblance of a two man game for sometime now. Would be nice to see.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

I've always thought JV was a good passer when he does it. Just doesn't do it. Could be that he misses the opportunities because of low awareness, but when he sees it he can throw some pretty pin point passes. Remember those passes he used to throw to Lowry in his first couple seasons with the Raps? Lowry would have the ball in the corner, he would pass JV the ball and then cut hard along the baseline and JV would hit him under the basket. That's a tough pass to make to a short Lowry in a crowded area.
