Much like our forum's own legendary kane, when this Kane speaks, I shut up and listen. Interesting outlook on one of rap's more controversial recent names and a guy I think gets a bit of a bum rap. I think he's got a couple of tracks that are pretty damned good, Jimmy Iovine is conceptually ill and the contract offer is accurate AF.

http://www.teambackpack.net/big-daddy-kane-praises-macklemore-for-bringing-out-old-school-legends-during-vmas/

The rap legend took to Instagram to praise Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ highly choreographed performance of “Downtown” at the award show:

“I don’t see one artist in the game that put Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee or Grandmaster Caz on their new song or let them perform on the VMA’s (including me) but people wanna have a problem with Macklemore for paying homage to them?, We don’t acknowledge our own and get mad when another color does. Now if one of them passes, then we wanna post **** about them, say RIP and get t-shirts with their picture. To me this is about real pioneers getting recognition in today’s society.”

Jay Rock really came to play with this new album. 90059 make you really feel as if you're in Watts, CA. Very cold.. very raw… very tough. That GRIT that you look for in rap is definitely apparent. Very happy with it. Vice City flow tho...

Its funny but when people talk about hypothetical matchups in terms of 3x3, I always think about these three...

9 double o 5 9 be the zip. Jay Rock showed up well but for such a short album it's too repetitive. FBGOVO is up next but I heard it'll feature multiple OVO and FBG artists. Hopefully Bryson Tiller makes it even though he's not technically on OVO. UA has Duality ready to steam and it's good but again they struggled to make a complete project. Slime Season and RHQ's new project are solid especially Slime Season.

Forgot all about Compton Menace, haven't heard much from him since the Black Wall Street days. I wish Bris Breezy/ChrisPac stuck to the singing on this one and just let Menace ride the track.

His voice is too nasally to be rapping on this, nearly ruins it.

But it still bangs!

Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde is one of the most underrated hip hop albums of all time. Top 5 for me doubt. They were just a bunch of clowns haha.

I will :D I've figured out that I don't care about lyrics really (although Lupe is nuts). To me, if the music is good, it's good.

Dunno where the R&B thread is, but The Weeknd's CD will be an album of the year. So good. It's uncanny how much he sounds like Michael Jackson.

always felt like Weeknd was tapping into the Prince lane moreso than Jacko's. Everything i've heard from him has always given me that Prince vibe.

I've never listened to Prince. Michael Jackson was the first name for me because I didn't know anyone else to compare him to, his remake of Dirty Diana was amazing, and a mashup of D.D. and Dirty Diana I found online was flawless - like, couldn't tell who was singing.

I was reading an article on elitedaily talking about how he's similar to both Prince and MJ.

I can see both comps working. Mike in terms of vocal sound and Prince in terms of content. Drugs and promiscuous women with no inhabitions when they're with him was Prince's MO. Don't think his drug talk was as heavy as Abel's but that could just be me being too young at the time to catch everything. Prince's music stayed laced (no pun intended) with inuendo about how he got down with the ladies.

Please check out my friend's mixtape. He's been working hard on it on and off for a few years. Chasing his dream and loves any feedback.
My personal faves are Book of Rhymes, This Is Me, Monday Morning, Untitled, and Jasmine.
Please let me know. Thank you.
