MDA is just as unlikeable as Scott.
And I never really liked MDA. I thought his hiring, which many hated compared to Phil, at least was logical when looking at the roster. Most people didn't think so which made my stance one of a MDA defender. I thought the failures of the team were simply a lack of talent which was due to the inevitable cycle of coming off title contention, which again people preferred to just blame him and Jim Buss for everything.

Re: B-Scott interview with OC Register
MDA would be great for this current team. He like Thibs helped usher in the new era of offense and defense. His issues were meshing big ego players. For a true rebuilding time like this (minus Kobe) he'd be a solid coach.

Re: B-Scott interview with OC Register
This type of thinking is so redundantly myopic, people keep mentioning "fresh blood" but point blank there was NONE on the NBA level in terms of decent assistants. The only pool to fish from would've been on the college front as Kilroy mentioned such as a Donovan ( who's a Scott Skiles clone)....but none of those guys are going to have a big impact on a team like the Lakers.dockingsched wrote: I wanted a young up and coming coach, some fresh blood. I believe this was echoed by most that didn't want Scott,
Guys where regurgitating used up vets like Sloan and Adelman, to say these names weren't being thrown around here is asinine. I get people don't like Scott, but it's not like the Lakers had a deep pool to catch from. Scott was right for where this team was at and right for trying to re-positioning it.
When you have 2 coaches who only took the job because they thought they could be the saviors to pick up from Phil only to wreck the franchise more, especially in terms of trying to distances themselves from the history of what Phil had did. I mean both tried to have pictures taken down from anywhere to the locker room, hallways at Staples and from the practice facility.....you know these guys are straight up delusional.
They took the job without understanding the history and prestige of the franchise, this is why you hear Scott always saying "how WE" as in the Lakers...do things. Yeah Scott has flaws but what coach doesn't ? Phil had them but when he flash those rings we shut the hell up. But all the guys that were mentioned have flaws and I can damn sure point them out.
But even fresh blood wasn't going to be the magic elixir to fix this team, the situation the team was in required getting somebody Kobe would respect, the fans would like or at least accept and somebody who could take the losses that was sure to come like the Batter Ram crashing through a crack house. Scott was that guy, weather you liked his personality/ coaching style or not. I like that Scott is a hard ass because things had gotten too damn soft and relaxing around the team, guys grew to accept losing and that's not what the Lakers are about. That's why that whole damn tank mantra was disgusting, but I got the gist of it....I just wasn't accepting of it like many had grew to like around here.
In terms of new blood, teams usually take a gamble and hire them like the Celtics did with Stevens or the Jazz did with Quin Snyder ( a guy we had and let get away )....but it's going to take awhile before either are great coaches. Stevens is getting more unearned pub because his team plays in a weak east. Snyder is a guy Kobe liked but he wasn't in a position to wait for him to get good at coaching.
Bottom the NBA has changed in terms of waiting on development especially from coaches, the Lakers will always try to find a proven guy before handing off the keys to a virgin who's never coached pro ball. And when Scott's time is up, the Lakers will look for a proven guy to take over. Bet on that.
