final piece puzzle
Imo this team is missing a Rasheed Wallace type player from being top 2 in the east. Don't know offhand who fits profile, if any.

Re: final piece puzzle
Your right. I think, given time the team as is could be top two in the east. Now if 50+ wins this year (53 max) is top two, then yeah.princeofpalace wrote:This team is not a "final" piece away
Going to be an awesome year.

Re: final piece puzzle
Unfortunately the "going to work" style team with no star is dead. The Hawks have very talented players and they were a blip on the radar last year (with injuries affecting them too). This season should let us know if Reggie, Dre and co. have some nice foundational pieces or if we're the 2003-2013 Milwaukee Bucks.

the final piece would be
dependable six man
illy staying healthy
SJ continuing to show out
We have the main puzzle pieces in place, we just need to make them fit together. This would be a question more for the middle of the season rather than beginning. We literally don't know what our team will look like

Might be someone we can develop if we get him in the draft.. Can pass and hit the outside shot.. Undersized for a 4, but that's alright.. he's thick and Drummond can make up for a lot.. Pretty sure he's available 2016 draft. Mid-1st round pick.

We're an Anthony Davis away from being legit. Maybe if we package Jennings with some filler and a couple of 1st?

I heard about an article about sports fans being the most hopelessly and overly optimistic fans of any group.
Sad to say it may be true reading posts on here and on /r/nba.

Re: final piece puzzle
The team was already developed before they needed Rasheed and the players games outside of Tayshaun had matured.
This team is much younger and as of right now just needs time to reveal what is needed for the future.

Re: final piece puzzle
Give them a few years to grow, then bring in D Mo to be our long term 4.
What's this boards thoughts on Donatas Motiejunas? Been reading up on him a lot lately. This is the last year of his restricted contract with the Rockets I believe.

Re: final piece puzzle
I'm not sure what is more funny, the notion that we could be any non-superstar player away from being a top 2 east team, or the implications about Rasheed Wallace.
He wasn't some role player, he was arguably our best player the year we won a championship, and was extremely versatile in terms of what he was good at.
Lots of teams are one versatile, low level all-star, defensive/offensive big away from being relevant. We aren't really one of them, but even if we were, that really isn't saying much.

Re: final piece puzzle
Every year there's a new team that nobody thought had a chance make it to the second round... are they considered a piece away?
It will take time under a proven coach and a trade that nets a homerun (a hidden gem)... and Lebron breaking his leg... and.... :^)

Re: final piece puzzle
If everyone hits their full potential, i'm not sure we are that far away. They would have to hit that potential in 2-3 years from now.
1. Reggie can be a top 5 PG or higher imo
2. KCP could be a top 10 SG around 7-10 imo
3. Stanley could be a top 5 SF imo
4. Ersan just be serviceable (tay kinda)
5. Dre could be the best Center in the NBA and a HOFer
I know a lot of could be, but if they do that it's one hell of a team. If they gel together could be very scary. Of course this also is possible of not happening, but i'm a optimist. Reminds me of that 01-02 team a little. Just have to keep adding pieces here and there.

Re: final piece puzzle
In theory:
Dre, SJ, KCP & RJ are the core we need to generate 50 wins consistently over the next 3-5 years.
Baynes, Illy & Morris the mix & match PF (and bench C & SF).
BJ our chief weapon off the bench...
Which means we lack:
Defensive wing - not really an issue if SJ & KCP develop as expected
Shooting wing off the bench - to fill Meeks' role moving forward.
So in theory we're not really far away from needing a "final" piece...
BUT
I don't believe you can skip 2 seasons of development. You gotta play through that to know if what you believe you have is what you actually have!
