Woj: Randle cites Kobe and MWP's mentorship

Post#1 » by Slava » Thu Sep 24, 2015 3:44 am

Pretty nice article on him.

"I'm frustrated," Randle texted. "I just want to play basketball."

"Patience," Kobe Bryant responded to him.

"I'm 19 years old," Randle wondered. "How do I have patience?"

"It's the only choice," Bryant told him.

"You'll see."

Now, Randle is sitting in a corner booth of Don Chuy's in Playa Vista on a sunny September afternoon and laughs, "I do see it now."

Randle is forever grateful about the way his boyhood idol climbed down from the posters on his bedroom and into his basketball life.

"The biggest person to help get me through this was Kobe – by far," Randle says.

I'm also glad MWP is getting to him about his ball stopping ways, which had me very concerned during the summer league.

After World Peace didn't like the way Randle was stopping the ball in a practice facility pickup game, he shot him a text later in the afternoon. "Go watch how the Spurs move without the ball," World Peace instructed Randle. So, Randle turned on his laptop and started watching the simple genius of the Spurs.

As Randle proudly remembers, "The next week, [Metta] said, "I can see you've been watching the film.'" He goes out of his way to make things easy for me."

Can't wait to see him play.

Me too I can't wait to see him play. To me he's got such a unique skill set that we haven't really seen before. Other then Kobe he's the one I'm most anxious to see play. Im hoping Randle can form a little better of a jump shot from like 17 feet out he had some little hitch in his shot I didn't like to see during summer league. Then again Randle is so young and will hopefully only get better!

For Kobe and Metta to go out of their ways to reach out to Randle tells me they see something we can't.

For someone as aggressive as Kobe to preach patience and someone like Metta who does questionable things on and off the court and told Randle to emulate the Spurs shows how much these two matured.

So much knowledge being imparted to a player, at a young age, that has the same drive as they do. Don't want to jinx anything, but Randle is going to be very special.

Negative...he's never done anything questionable off the court...

Mitch basically said today that MWP is great in 15min scrimmages in practice, but he's probably not up to full games and a full NBA season.
Didn't completely close the door, but didn't leave it open very wide either.
Sounds like they'd like to use that roster spot for more than a tackling dummy.

He said what he said... No interpretation needed. He also said he'd have no problem dropping someone on a contract for a better player in camp.... So check me when they all come back from Hawaii.

I'd still be surprised if MWP made the roster. He's basically a pseudo coach right now, wouldn't be shocked to see him get some type of consultant role going into the season.

He beat his wife, applied for a job at Circuit City for employee discounts while listing Larry Bird as a reference and drank Hennessy in the locker room. Nothing more than that I suppose.
