I'll make a bolder prediction... MWP will still be on the roster Jan 10 and therefore will be on the roster for the season, but more because we'll be light at the 3 and 4 when we trade Young and Kelly which will happen before the season starts. We won't get starters in return. Just picks and potential bench talent.
MWP will in fact start some games early due to the respect Scott has for him and the rapport he has with Kobe. But by the middle of the season, he won't be sniffing much court time.
We will just miss the playoffs so MWP will be a non-factor.
This will be MWP's last season in the NBA. Also his last with the Lakers because by the end of the season Randle won't need his brand of teaching as much.

Hope you're right about the Young/Kelly trade, Kilroy. (Of course, many of us have been hoping for that all off-season and so far...) But, I'd go for anything to get rid of those two. Hell, stick Jerry West in a uni and send him out for that matter.

Still, if they want MWP's presence in the locker room and helping the kids, then why don't they just make him an asst. coach and keep the roster open for our younger prospects.

In this period of offseason, there are rare chance quality FA still available. The quality ones normally has signed contracts within a few weeks after the FA market open.
LAL has already signed and trade a few quality players like lou, hibbert and bass. The roster is still unbalanced. Time is needed to build a balanced and competitive squad.
MWP is a great veteran presence!

The CBA should make you sad not Mitch and co. They are at least getting young talent in here ( by the draft) and preserving cap space for the future. What more can they do?
