Clippers Add Two Players Ahead Of Camp

Image

“I’m excited about being here,” Mbah a Moute said. “I’ve always been able to play multiple positions. I have an ability to defend multiple positions, from point guards I’ve guarded to centers. I think having that can bring a lot to the team. The Warriors, they went small during the Finals, and that changed that whole series…It gives you that advantage to handle all kinds of situations during the game.”

“I always wanted to play basketball, and I never gave up,” Tskitishvili said. “I’ve experienced everything. If you go through these things, it’s going to help you a lot.”

The Clippers depart for training camp in Irvine on Friday afternoon and will start camp Saturday morning. With the additions of Tskitishvili and Mbah a Moute, the roster’s currently at 17 players.

interesting thing that josh smith's comment about doc made me think of:

has he ever really played for a coach who really truly figured out how to utilize his skillset? that's gotta be one of the underlying reasons he's had long periods of inefficiency on the offensive side of the ball.

it makes me wonder if josh smith might actually have a career year here in terms of really being that star, efficient 2-way player.

also, almost forgot dawson was on the team lol. have a hard time seeing how he's gonna pick up minutes. i'm hoping chuck hayes makes the final cut, because he would be the ultimate practice player and semi-coach to teach dj/blake how to become nasty defenders.

but if not, i hope it's cause skita surprises everyone and plays like a mini-dirk that denver thought he was going to be.

I'm hoping Josh can be our play making 4 off the bench while being a terrific defender.
If the Clippers win the championship next year I'm getting banned from RealGM

After summer league, I thought for sure that Dawson could earn a few minutes. It's going to be really tough for him, but he's going to have go hard in the limited amount of practices that we have. The thing about him is that I think he would be up for the challenge more so than Wilcox. Wilcox is talking a good game, but it would have to be a 180 for him to see the court imo.

I think we'll end up carrying 15 to start the season. All 3 of the camp signings are unguaranteed. We're finally not restricted to a hard cap. If one of them needs to be waived for another move later on, it's not a big deal. So I really wouldn't be mad with however it turned out between the 3 of them.

I'd have to think that Stan Van Gundy qualifies as a good coach who knows what would be best for him even if Josh Smith did better in a more limited role with Houston upon being ousted out of Detroit. It's on J-Smoove himself. I'm sure no one is calling for him to take those inefficient 3's yet he still takes them whenever he gets the chance. Don't get me wrong, he will be a key to our success this year, but spinning that his coaches have been the problem takes the accountability away from him, who is ultimately responsible for the way he plays.

With regard to Branden Dawson, I think the kid can help us if given the opportunity by Doc just on his sheer energy alone. Plus, he looks bigger to me, for some reason, in his media photo.

can't really agree with that assessment. svg tried to fit a square peg into a circle in regards to smith. he wanted to start all three of greg monroe, andre drummond, and josh smith at the same time. it clearly didn't work and if svg was smart he would have had one of the three coming off the bench all year and never trying to play all three at once.

i do like svg a lot actually, but his lineup management was very poor with smith. i don't think anyone can excuse smith for taking those long twos that he's famous for taking, but you also can't put him in a starting SF role that is typically reserved for floor spacers.

smith's issues are not mutually exclusive. there's a specific anecdote i remember where i believe then-coach (lenny wilkens?) yelled at mike bibby for passing smith the ball since smith fired up a horrible 3. bibby's response was something to the effect of "THEN DON'T PUT HIM IN THAT F****** SPOT"

smith is definitely a flawed player. but just like with jamal crawford, his flaws can either be minimized or maximized with the right coach. i blame smith for taking dumb shots, but i also blame his coaches for not putting him in better spots where he won't pull that kind of crap. the blame is not mutually exclusive.
