Certainly sounds like there will be a hockey rink, whether the Admirals are a part of it or not.

The detailed proposed design for the new Milwaukee Bucks arena will likely be reviewed by city officials in October or November, with construction of the building likely to begin within the first three months of 2016, Bucks President Peter Feigin said Tuesday.
The basketball club still hopes to have the arena completed by the start of the 2017-'18 season, Feigin said at a joint lunch meeting of the Rotary Club of Milwaukee and Milwaukee Press Club. But he acknowledged it will be difficult to make that deadline.
"Everything has to go right to get this thing built in 24 months," Feigin told the groups, which met at the War Memorial Center.
Bucks officials have said the arena might not be completed until the 2018-'19 National Basketball Association season.
The project's detailed design will likely be submitted to city officials within 30 to 60 days, Feigin said. Those plans will require Plan Commission and Common Council approval.
That design approval, and execution of a lease between the Bucks and Wisconsin Center District, the state-created agency that will own the new arena, are needed before construction of the building can start.
The arena will be built just north of the BMO Harris Bradley Center on what is now mainly parking lots.
The $500 million project, with $250 million in public financing, will include a new parking structure in the Park East strip, east of N. 6th St.; the demolition of a city-owned parking structure north of W. Highland Ave. and east of N. 4th St., and a public plaza just east of the new arena.
The Bucks also will build a privately financed entertainment center, with taverns and restaurants, in place of that parking structure, and a team practice facility in the Park East strip, west of N. 6th St.
"It's our expectation to get all these projects started as quickly as possible, and at the same time," Feigin said.
Feigin said the new arena would include the ability to make ice to host ice shows.
But he declined to comment on whether the Milwaukee Admirals minor league hockey team, now a Bradley Center tenant, would be in the new arena.
Admirals owner Harris Turer has told the Journal Sentinel he expects the team will have to find a new home — most likely the UW-Milwaukee Panthers Arena.
Also, Feigin said Bucks tickets in the new arena will have higher prices than the team's current tickets at the Bradley Center. He said 85% of the ticket revenue will come from the first five rows — where the higher-priced club seats are located.
"I promise those prices will go up," Feigin said.
"I also promise we will have affordable tickets," he said, in "the $15 range."
As for the entertainment center competing with other downtown businesses, Feigin said the new arena's games and other events will draw more people, creating more customers for everyone.
"This arena is designed not to have any sit-down restaurants," Feigin said, making the entertainment center an important part of the larger project.

They need the ice sheet for Disney on Ice and those Olympic figure skater tours if they want those events.
I believe the challenge with the Admirals stems from little money to pay for rent versus the massive cost to keep converting the ice surface over on a weekly basis.
Who knows. Maybe they got a preliminary cost estimate on the whole thing and it came in lower so they'll have some money for an ice sheet.

The only time the Admirals need a bigger building than the Arena is when they have post game concerts and that's 2-3 times a year. The smaller place seems ideal for a team that draws around 5K
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Little doubt that the worst seats in the new place will be much better than the worst seats at the BC. If they can keep a $15 price for some of them that would be great.

It'll be nice having seats with some room. For legs and to the sides, so you don't get smothered sitting in between 2 bigs. The BC seats are so terrible.

Did any see Madison just spent 46mil of public funds to subsidize a downtown building for a big Pharma company? Where is the outrage? A hotel, parking ramp, and shops go with it too.

There was probably plenty leading up to it.
Got a link?
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.
Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

Ummmmm it was a very heated and controversial issue. They debated for 9 hours in the final meeting before they finally put it up for vote. And it's not like Madison is a 2 political party city.
Here's the State Journal's article for anyone that's interested: http://host.madison.com/wsj/news/local/govt-and-politics/madison-city-council-approves-deal-for-massive-judge-doyle-square/article_2bba6b7b-01a3-54a8-bf72-eb84a92f6332.html

There was outrage. It only passed by one vote after 9 hours of debate and plenty of activism prior to the vote.
At about 3:15 a.m., the council voted 12-6 with 11 votes needed among the 18 members who were present and voted. One council member recused himself and another was absent.
Just because you're not looking for it, doesn't mean it isn't there. It would have taken you 30 seconds to find it on google.

Sitting in the lower bowl close to the court at the bc is pretty brutal. Almost have to sit sideways and if your in the middle of the aisle theres hardly any point trying to get out. The new arena cant possibly not be a big improvement and you would be happy to pay more.

Exciting news from NML.....

A 33-story building is big. The downtown is coming back in a major way if these projects all get done and occupied.

Damn NML isn't messing around. Shout out to all my skyscrapercity MKE forum folks that are on realgm. Milwaukee is going to look mad different once all these towers fill the skyline.
833, The Couture, NML HQ, NML residential, possible JC tower, and the arena Milwaukee is on the come up. It's going to be a great view looking East from the arena towards the lake and skyline. The skyline looks best when it's viewed from the Park East area.
