My impression from watching practice on Pistons.com -

Everybody that's actually going to play is going to be really good.

The weakest part of Stanley Johnson's game is posting up bigger guys. He's better going downhill.

Pope and Meeks are going to be a plus every night.

Marcus Morris is also the truth, I did not know he could score like that. I think he's really going to do well with this opportunity.

We've got at least a solid 8 plus producers on the team:
Jackson
Kcp
Meeks
Johnson
Morris
Ily
Dre
Baynes

If those guys lead the team in minutes it's going to be a good year.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Hoping the ethic of the guys can work on dre, that and their mentality.Thats the one thing that I really question about dre,he needs to grow up and become a man,not a man child.

My comment might be hasrsh and its only a practice, but those are the things that are/could really hold him back.

^I agree about Dre. But then always come back to Shaq being a goofy dude off the court as well. But Shaq brought it on the floor and relished bullying people on it. I don't think Dre has that mentality and by your 3rd year in the league, you basically are what you are.

^^I feel the same way about Dre. I think he's just up and down throughout a game emotionally and mentally. He rarely rings out the "I'm going to stomp you" mentality.

Stan said Morris poked Dre in the chest about his effort and said 'this is your team, we go where you go, set an example' and SVG said its a good thing.

It is a good thing, but it's also scary it needs to be done.

Sometimes people need a push and they respond. With what this team has been thru since Andre was drafted, maybe solidarity, and a stable environment will get him there.

It's almost here friends! Pistons basketball with a real, true blue team!

Sounds like Dre continues to be too nice, too uneven, too soft. This concerns me. Stanley and KCP are definitely going to bust their asses 24/7, and it sounds like Morris and RJ will, too. What's it going to take to get Drummond on the same page?

We'll when your surrounded by passionate people, it has a tendency to sweep people into the tidal wave.

Reggie, and Pope are both so passionate Andre won't be able to take games off like he did before. I see that passion in Reggie's eyes and demeanor like Isiah did. If he does start commanding the squad like that, look out.

I'm gunna let him get out there in actual nba games this season before I claim that Dre is just going through the motions. With the guys around him I highly doubt he has the luxury of taking games/nights off.

I might be putting two and two together and getting five, but is it possible Dre's contract situation is related to SVG not being totally sold on him as a franchise player?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

man that would be amazing, i been wanting to trade Dre for Cousins for awhile now. I don't think Drummond will ever reach Cousins potential

Cousins 1 on 1 in the post, surrounded by our shooters and Cousins and Reggie running pick and pops along with pick n rolls. oh man

You know...there are very few players I would even entertain trades involving Drummond, and Cousins is one of them.

Of that were to happen, it would absolutely have to include another deal for a shot blocking rebounding C to place next to him.

I don't know. I can see Drummonds all world potential, but I can't denie I can also see the pretty good center doesn't care enough no killer instinct Drummond.

It's a conundrum. If he's traded for anything less then a player like Counsins, I'll lose my **** mind.

I hope not, even with his motor questions he's still far to valuable not to get a deal done. If we don't max him out the next team will in a heartbeat.

disagree, the trade would be Drummond for Cousins straight up or we would have to throw someone else in. Cousins is a center that can block shots and rebounds just as well as Drummond and can do much much more.

Drummond is more athletic than Cousins but thats about it.

Listen I know you like Cousins as do i, but don't state things that are obviously untrue. Drummond is obviously the superior rebounder, flat out.

I'm also talking about a secondary deal for another player who can rebound and block shots not the same deal I don't know where you got that from.

I'm not playing the "our guy now sucks at everything" game as I believe Drummond is on track to be the best Center in the game.

This is a hypothetical anyway.

I wouldn't say superior rebounder, i would say slightly better and my bad on the second deal thing, i read it wrong but it still stands Cousins can play center, block shots and rebounds, he wouldn't need a second player next to him.

I haven't given up on Drummond yet but if he doesn't improve this season then it isn't a good look for us and on him and his potential and I would start getting worried.

It's definitely a big season for Drummond. He needs to grow up a little, communicate better on defense, and shoulder a slightly larger role in the offense. That's a lot, but I don't expect/need MASSIVE improvement in all of those areas this year, just progress.

If he can play 34 minutes instead of 30, keep the fouls under control, look somewhat better defensively (which is mainly a matter of consistency and avoiding constant lapses), add more volume to his post game and shoot enough well enough to be doubled some of the time, we'll be good. Shooting 50% from the line would be a huge boon, too, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

If he's going to be a centerpiece type of player, it won't all happen THIS year. There does need to be progress, though. He's still young, but he's not a rookie any more. If we're going to invest 25% of our cap into him, he better be working hard all the time. He's not Shaq -- he can't coast on his physical talent alone, as he's not Shaq's size and he doesn't have Shaq's natural skills.
