What would you hope for in a Frye trade
With the wide-spread rumors that Frye is on the block:
Example: OMD LINK
What would you hope the Magic gain by trading Frye?
For me, as the Magic is in a clear win-now mode, trading Frye must be about gaining another bench asset. That probably means trying him for another PF.

Re: What would you hope for in a Frye trade
I'm thinking we're stuck with him. He's got a problem contract, and he's coming off a really bad year where when he's not hitting shots he's practically worthless. Ideally I'd trade him for a cheap pf who's a willing defender and cash considerations.

The only thing I would hope for is not having to give up a draft pick to dump his weak ass

Re: What would you hope for in a Frye trade
I think trading him to the Hornets for Marvin Williams would be interesting. Marvin is on an expiring contract and isn't quite good enough of a shooter to make up for MKG's deficiencies. Frye and Kaminsky could provide the floor spacing necessary to help big Al, Kemba and MKG coexist on the floor together. Obviously their defense will suffer, but they need extra spacing badly (they had the 28th ranked offense last year and were last in 3pt%).
The benefit of having Marvin is his versatility. He is a jack of all trades, master of none. He can hit a three, defend some quicker fours and can cover some threes on defense. Among players who played more than 1000 minutes on the Hornets, he ranked #5 in dtrg and was #1 among players who played more than 2000 minutes. He won't score much, but he can keep the ball moving and score off open jumpers, cuts to the basket and driving it in occasionally.
We may need to sweeten the pot with a protected 2nd pick, but that shouldn't be a deal breaker considering Marvin's utility and his expiring contract.

What Zmill said. I'd hope that we don't have to give up too much to convince someone to take him off our hands.

Hope for...an early 2nd round pick.
Realistically...an expiring contract.

Not ready to give up on him. He had a great offseason of conditioning and defense is a product of coaching.

Honestly I'm probably not ready to trade him. His value isn't getting any lower from now till the trade deadline, but it might increase, or he might prove to be a valuable player for us and we keep him until the offseason and go from there.

Re: What would you hope for in a Frye trade
I'm hoping that we don't have to package an asset (pick or young player) to get rid of him. Providing that has been accomplished, next thing is not having to absorb another bad contract instead.
If that can't be achieved, than just keep him on the bench until he is expiring deal.

I would package him with a 2nd Rounder to get rid of him next offseason. May as well keep him for the year as a 3rd String Center.

Re: What would you hope for in a Frye trade
If we had to trade him, I would trade him for a guy around his value that can defend and rebound. I'm not gonna overeact over one preseason game where most players are rusty though. If he does this around the second week of the season, then I might jump off the bandwagon.
