Why don't the Jays want home field advantage against KC?

Post#1 » by bluerap23 » Sun Oct 4, 2015 2:45 pm

Any theories out there?

Maybe they'd prefer not to play the wild card team in the first round?

Texas is a much easier opponent than Houston or NYY in the first round. With that said, Houston might still be our opponent anyway if Texas chokes again today.

We could also end up winning today with KC losing, which would put us back in first.

Nothing is really settled yet.

Mark Buerhle is starting and Drew Hutchison will be pitching from the 3rd inning.

You don't look ahead to the ALCS right now, the jays and or the Royals could be knocked out before the ALCS. Both world series teams last season were Wold Card teams. The MLB playoffs is a crap-shoot, every team that makes it has a shot at winning it all.

jays played their b-squad 2 games because the starters needed rest from a double header and long season. they weren't trying to drop games on purpose for matchup purposes

no easier matchup, remember that last time raptors fans thought washington is a better matchup. like above said, it's a crap-shoot.

It is NOT a crapshoot - the Jays play better at home. This is a fact. Not to mention that if we win the AL we face the winner of the wildcard game who would have already used their best pitcher.

Why the Jays don't seem to care about this is bewildering

First off, yes, the entire playoffs as whole is a crapshoot, every team has a chance to win. The 2 teams which played for the world series last season were wild card teams. If that doesn't indicate crapshoot I don't know what does.

If the Jays end up facing the wild card team they will be going up against a better team, both the Astros and the Yankees are better than Texas. In the case the Jays face the Astros they face their ace (Dallas keuchel), who are not using their best pitcher in the wild card game.

It's a dumb move not to pitch Price and if he craps the bed in game 1, the media will be all over Gibbons. Funny part is that Price is trying to back up Gibbons brain farts by saying he didn't want to pitch saturday in case he had a bad start and it would be bad karma for the playoffs. Uhhh....I guess Price forgot his last start was a stinker against the Rays. I would have started Stroman for 3 innings today just to get some work. Now you have the game 1 and 2 pitchers on huge extended rest. Recipe for disaster.

I don't know why anyone wants the Rangers. They have been sizzling the last month and one of thier starters (who we will probably see twice if goes 5 games) owns our hitters.

We're acting like any team that hasn;t made the playoffs in 22 years. We're just happy to be there and seemed too overjoyed at just winning the division. This team is losing Price in the off season and got rid of most of thier high end prospects for him and china doll Tulowitski. This may be a one and done deal so winning the division ain;t good enough this year. At most we have maybe next year if we keep a guy like Estrada but after next year, one of Bautusta or Edwin (and maybe both) will be too expensive to keep and big salary guys like Martin and Tulo will be past thier prime but taking alot of our budget.

Yankees and Astros better than the Rangers? Based on what? Both Yankees and Astros have limped through September while the Rangers have been sizzling. Much rather play either one of those than Texas. We've owned the Yankees this year when it counted and we got swept by the Astros at the lowest point of the season. Hardly a barometer.

This feels very Raptor-ish, in how they will enter the playoffs. No expectations to go far. The team seems to think, like fans, that aww heck, the MLB playoffs are a crap shoot, so who cares. But dat AL East banner!!

The only Raptor-ish thing is the posters who know very little about baseball coming into threads and make baseless posts with no evidence or statistics to back up their opinions.

This blue Jays team is nothing like the Raptors. They actually have the talent and personnel to make a long run and win it all.

that both the jays and royals would make it to the ALCS and even have a game 7 is a crapshoot.

pretty sure they do care about it though, but it's not the main priority with the division wrapped up nor should it be.

they needed to rest the starters in game 2 of that double-header on wednesday. thursday was a write-off considering the start time and the weather. so it would've been dumb to play the regulars in either of those games. they tried winning on friday and they did. they tried winning yesterday and almost did. they can still win today. why there's such an uproar about it is the bewildering part.

We really should ban all references to the Raptors on this board, at least for the duration of the playoffs.

If you can't post here without referencing the Raptors, it might be a sign that you should read more and post less.

Because this is the MLB playoffs and it doesn't really matter in the slightest. As soon as they clinched for the division, this was predictable. The organization's focus moved to Thursday.

Not sure how you see any correlation to the Raptors the past couple of seasons.

There is no correlation. He's just talking nonsensically about something he knows nothing about...it's kind of his thing.

Raptor-ish!?? Don't project Raptors futility to what the Jays are doing today. The Jays are entering the playoffs as the Vegas odds on favorite to win the World Series. The Raptors entered the playoffs as the odds on favorite for their GM (Masai Ujiri) to be fined for cursing their opponent in public. Very different GM's, very different situation. Saying the Jays are "Raptor-ish" is an insult to Anthopoulos.

Normally I agree with a few points

Actually, everyone in the city and pretty much most members of the team have said the WS is their goal several times over the past few weeks. The pressure to go all the way was there the day they made the trades at the end of July. This team has been under tremendous pressure to perform since August. This run didn't just happen and then everyone was "pleasantly surprised". Everyone knew the day we got Price was that we were going for it. And by "it" I mean not just playoffs.

Well I was certainly right about it being a bad move to start Buerhle today. You just don't break away from good habits going into the post season.
