PG: Chalmers straight outta Basketball IQ

Post#1 » by Rich2Hassan » Mon Oct 5, 2015 12:20 am

This season, i think we should do post game threads with a theme, alot of the other boards have them. Lets start it off in pre-season.

-Did not catch the first half, but Bosh stats do not look bad.
-Chalmers still SUCKIN'!, can we trade him for Brian Roberts?
-Winslows D looks great, J will come.
-Whittington will NOT make the team, looked like trash
-We need to address out 3pt shooting this pre-season.

-To be continued....

G.Green's windmill was so effortless yet so aesthetically pleasing.

Rio started off horrible but then calmed down and played better in the second half. A lot of you are sick of Rios antics so I can see why most of you missed the few good things that he did. If he plays throughout the year like he did in the second half, he'll be much more tolerable.

Spo is making the guards move fast to initiate an early screen play and if it fails, it's straight to a set play. Interesting dynamic.

Bosh and Dragic need to run much more plays to get the offense going and force defenders to move.

Wade looks great and nimble.

Something to note, Bosh is looking to pass the ball more it seems. Keeping an eye on that when Whiteside is back.

Mcbob is a monster. GG played great tonight. Lord he has a quick trigger though. But it's not as crazy as it was in PHX. Winslow is missing a much needed J. He still flicks his follow though as if his wrist were broken. But his defense is otherworldly for a rookie. Stat had a great night.

Thread title made me laugh

Well, just seeing Bosh back in business was worth it.

Liked the scoring punch from Green and STAT off the bench. Amare should be good for 15-20 minutes of offense. And Green can fly haha.

Winslow looks great on D and in transition but he needs to work on that J.

As for the bad... 3-point shooting, obviously. Not sure who can emerge as our designated shooter(s) this year (Green? Dragic? McBob?)

And Rio was Rio. But we all knew that.

We need Hassan back in the worst way. I need to see everyone on the court before i say anything. But we need work, and hopefully we figure most things out in the next few exhibition games, well the basics.

One of the net negatives will be solved when Hassan return (old Haslem), Riley desperately needs to dump the other in Rio. This will be a very good team when they build chemistry and Whiteside returns.

The only concern is consistent 3pt shooting. We really need Green to be a 37%+ 3pt shooter off the bench and Lu, Bosh and Goran to all be 35%+ 3pt shooters to maintain decent spacing in the lineup. Lu will obviously be the most tricky one to achieve that but he surprisingly shot 36% last year so if he can sustain that I'm confident the spacing will be sufficient (assuming Bosh and Dragic stay decent 3pt shooters). I don't expect Winslow to be good at mid-range early this year at all but hope he can shoot formidably at the 3 to keep the defense honest, he was great spot-up shooter at Duke. His lock down d, ability to get the rim and draw fouls at will + formidable 3pt shooting definitely adds a huge dynamic to this team that we didn't have last year.

Amare imo is an underrated signing, tonight confirms that he's a great addition for his role and big upgrade over Haslem. Mcbob is Mcbob doing the same thing he did last year before he got injured, a 6'10 PG.

Green
Amare
Mcbob
Winslow
Healthy Bosh
+ added chemistry

,makes me VERY excited for this season. :D

Goran/Rio(ugh)
Wade/Green
Lu/Winslow
Bosh/Amare
Whiteside/Mcbob/Bird

Seems to be the main rotation we'll have during the season. One of the best starting lineups in the league and a pretty deep bench.

Dragic, our starting point guard, only took 3 shots. Oh boy the chemistry is severely lacking. We better start running significantly more plays with him and Bosh. He had 6 assists 4 rebounds and 2 steals, but we won't win a damn thing if he doesn't score more. Or at least attempt more shots.

Dont worry for Dragic in preseason he will make asists and actions with other players like in PHX then in season he will shoot what ever he will need to. He dont care for statistics

- Having Whiteside erases all of the defensive concerns that I have. Our perimeter D is more than capable, especially if Green ultimately decides to try consistently like he did tonight.

- Chalmers needs to be gone if not needs his minutes reduced; he isn't the best option for us anymore at backup G. With that being said, TJ/JRich needs to make that more of a reality or else it will be another Norris Cole situation.

- I believe we will have the most versatile big men rotation in the league, hell arguably best when healthy. We have a healthy balance of scoring, defense, rebounding, and play-making at those positions.

- Wade looks great but I need to him to be more trusting of his teammates. We have a good amount of depth now; his USG% doesn't need to be nearly as high as it was last year. I know its not his fault but people tend to get used to the ball being in their hands and dealing with the injuries/mediocrity surrounding him led Wade to do very tough things. Dragic needs the ball more in his hands for him to get going offensively; it works out for everyone.

- Bosh looks great and invigorated. I am more confident in him more than ever before.

I liked what I saw. I feel like people give Rio such a leeway. I am just glad when things get tough, Dragic will come back in. I better not ever see a Rio, Dragic, Wade line up, our defense would get shredded, even with Hassan in

McBob btw, what a great play maker. This is why i didnt want to trade him, he is at such a great value. If we were getting a superstar, thats the only way I would trade him lol

Rewatched the Stat and Green highlights. They are two vet min players who can contribute so much, its truly remarkable we got those guys at that price. Stat wont play a lot every night, but another scorer off the bench is just what he is. McBob can get him and Green buckets

Speaking of Dragic our offense was anemic for the most part because he barely looked to score. I know he is much more aggressive than that, but just one ball amongst him, Wade, and Bosh. it will be interesting to see how it plays out, but I hope he doesnt defer too much, his aggressive play in the paint is key to our success

I will wait until December possibly to judge our 3 point shooting. We have average 3 point shooters, but as the season goes on they need to be less hesitant

Also I saw some stat that said when Amare entered Hornets score 7 of last 12 possessions... I thought that was more od our guards getting owned, I didnt see much of the Hornets hurting us at the basket. Roberts and Lin played well for them.

One of the things I enjoyed was watching Winslow's activity. Didn't score goals but he was passing and playing defense. His freethrows are great too.

Happy to see Bosh back. Wade looks fine; hope it stays that way. Amar'e and Green were great, can't wait to see them much more consistent. Didn't even realize Birdman didn't play too many minutes, he came in during the 4th.

Dragic didn't score nor did we have Whiteside. We were solid even without those contribution. It's amazing.

I feel like Dragic didn't have the ball in his hands enough tonight...I know it's just preseason, but that was an issue last season too. I know they did not just pay an All-NBA PG $85mil to have him stand in the corner for half his minutes.

I agree, I want to see Dragic taking 12+ shots a game at least. 15+ when Wade sits. It is just preseason though so he was just trying to get everyone involved.

I also want to see him put up more 3's. We all know he doesn't miss near the rim but he needs to help keep the defense honest. Put up a couple of 3's and midrange j's a game.
