Hawks Open Practice / Scrimmage

Post#1 » by PandaKidd » Sat Oct 3, 2015 5:51 pm

Went over to Philips today to check it out. My thoughts:

Justin Holiday looked really good. 3 triples, good shot , good defense.

THJ looked good, first shot was a brutal brick then he went 3/3.

Tavares was less than mediocre. He can't rotate, he didn't rebound, he has no OFF skills, he can't run the floor. He had two altered shots , 1 vs teague to end the quarter and 1 vs muscala. When he turned the ball over about the third time he was visibly upset and loafed on offense getting down the court.

Millsap and AH looked great.

Mike Scott, someone che k this, dude looked like he put on 10-15 lbs. Looked much bigger to me. He played well also hitting 3s and some drives to the basket.

Tiaggo was tiaggo. Nice passes, good hustle.

Thabo was decent, he's running so that's a plus.

Korver moved well but his legs clearly not under him yet.

Thanks for the update, PK.

Hawks come to Cincy this Wednesday to play the CAVS. Hoping to sneak off to the game and send back a scouting report of my own.

Holliday should have a legit shot at replacing some of DeMarre's minutes in the early going. I expect Thabo will need at least the first month of the season to get back into game shape.

Mike Scott has indicated he's lived in the gym since his arrest, calling it his sanctuary. Knowing the trouble he's caused and that his career is in jeopardy, I expect him to put together the best season of his career.

Tavares is a project. No denying it. I concluded Bebe was at least 2 years away when we drafted him back in 2013. I foresee the same for Edy. The speed of the game, the frequency of the schedule. Age 25 -26 is when most foreign big men start to contribute greatly in the NBA. Even by then, I expect he'll be a rotation player. Think Kosta Koufos.

How did Teague look? He has to know this is a big year for him. He'll either sieze control of the Hawks starting PG spot for the next 5+ years...or become expendable as Dennis continues to emerge.

Teague looked good. He was pushing the ball but you could kind of tell he took it a little easy. He didnt do a lot of shooting. He wasnt on the floor all that much either from what i remember.

The teams were
Teague vs Schroeder
Splitter vs Horford
Korver Vs Thabo
Millsap vs Scott
Bazemore vs THJ

They played Mack and Terran Petteway a lot , Petteaway actually had a few nice 3 pointers , although his shot is awful looking.

THJ had 10pts , Holiday had 11.

VERY interesting.

I'm a bit surprised Thabo was playing AGAINST Korver as opposed to playing alongside him.

Teague played against his backup.
Horford played against his backup.
Millsap played against his backup....

But the starting SG played against the starting SF. Hmmmmmmmm

Probably nothing, but worth noting.

well, TBH they matched up differently a lot, they had a few series where AH played against Millsap and that clearly isnt the case as PM doesnt play C and this was when Splitter was still on the floor. lots of picks, lots of switches. There was a lot of different looks, Muscala got some good run too.

Bazemore and Mike Scott were listed as the F
Thabo and Millsap where listed as the F

kORVER/THJ listed as guards, although I dont remember Korver matching up with THJ. IF memory serves, Korver played against Thabo and THJ and Bazemore were matched up.

Scott guarded Millsap (and Millsap abused him several times).
