New starting lineup

Post#1 » by nickforthreee » Mon Oct 5, 2015 9:26 pm

with MKG out I think this is what we should go with:

Kemba
Lamb
Batum
Zeller
Al

Marvin was added for shooting but with Lamb there is an extra shooter in the lineup now & Cody has also proven he has worked on his 3. the rotation could be:

Kemba/ Lin / Roberts
Lamb/pj/Daniels/Harrison
Batum/Marv
Zeller/ Frank/ Tyler
Al/ Hawes

pj & Daniels are interchangeable

I believe Zeller has to start as well. We'll need his defense.

Al/Zeller/Batum/Lamb/Kemba
Hawes/Frank/Marvin/Daniels/Lin

Maybe Hansbrough plays ahead of Hawes if our defense turns out to be horrendous.

I'm having a hard time fighting the vision of Marv becoming our starting SF and Cody being back as a starter until Frank is ready to take that role.

I honestly think this was the best lineup before MKG got injured but I'm likely in the minority here. That team will never be painful to watch on offense, like last year. I love Lin on the second unit pick and pop with Frank. Marvin can pick up Lambs minutes on the second unit and probably not lose much.

I was thinking about Marvin starting at the 3 earlier. I don't think its that far fetched.

I think that's his natural position. Rather start Lamb, or even Daniels, than Marvin though

Two keys to life without MKG

1) Lamb must shine on offense. He has to have a breakout season. The door is wide open for him.

2) Zeller must shine on defense. He has to build on his improving defense that just seemed to get better and better before his injury last season. Zeller has to become the new anchor of the defense.

The Orlando game was impossible to judge because there were only baseline cameras available. So it's still early but that looks pretty good. I think that either Batum or Lamb needs to be playing with the second unit. The combination of Lin, Daniels or Hairston, and Williams just seems too weak, especially on defense. Also, Roberts has a fair amount of experience, and he worked nicely with Lin last night.

Marvin is not fast enough to guard the quick 3's of today. He isn't a good defender at the 4, even with slower players on the perimeter. I think his natural spot is the 3, but better coming off the bench. Still, see some games where due to match ups he gets little burn, if the opponent is running 3 guards.

I agree that Fat's lineup is the best, although hoping Daniels shows strong so he gets more reserve minutes at the 2 than Lin. Prefer Lon to run the reserve point, but we shall see.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I have a feeling we are underestimating Brian Roberts a tad. I think we are much more likely to see a Lin - Roberts backcourt, than a Lin - Daniels or Lin - Hairston backcourt. So even though Roberts will be the 3rd PG, he is still probably ahead of Daniels and PJ in the guard rotation. You know Cliff at least trusts Roberts. As long as Lin can handle the SG defensively, then this is a more likely combination. And frankly, no matter the match up, I'd trust Lin defensively over Daniels and PJ.

Kemba/Lin/Roberts
Lamb/Daniels
Batum/Marv/PJ
Cody/Frank/Psycho
Al/Hawes

I really think its possible we aren't as bad as people think with that rotation, assuming Lamb can step up. Don't get me wrong, MKG is our best player, but in order to make our starting lineup with MKG and Al work we have to have a PF who can shoot 3's well and defend. If Frank wasn't going to be ready to fill in that role immediately we were going to have to make a sacrifice to either defense or spacing with Marv or Cody. Our defense will suffer without MKG but our overall balance might not be much worse than it was going to be anyways while we waited for Frank to get up to speed. We will just be skewed a little more towards offense and less towards defense. Hopefully MKG comes back a little sooner than we initially expect and Frank wins the starting spot by the end of the season and we can head into the playoffs with our ideal rotation, which imo would be:

Kemba/Lin/Roberts
Batum/Lamb/Daniels
MKG/Marv/PJ
Frank/Cody/Psycho
Al/Hawes

Id be a lot more comfortable with Marvin at the 3 if both Cody and Kaminsky are in there with him. Al or Hawes not so much.

If we're thinking what's best for when Al is in the game kaminsky is the best play. If Clifford was undecided still if Kaminsky was in the rotation, then it would also keep the second unit in tact. Essentially an MKG for Kaminsky swap.

I can't help but get the feeling that the added spacing and extra emphasis on needing a faster and more offensive oriented style of play could lead to a huge year for Kemba.

Kemba
Batum
Marv
Coby
Al
