Having the right pieces means Deng and CHalmers never having to be on the ball players. It means Deng rarely having to shoot 3s above the break because guys like Bosh, McRoberts, Dragic will be operating around that part of the perimeter.
Deng was a damn good corner 3 point shooter. He's not a splash bro, and not a guy who can make it rain from anywhere. But, in a good system, Deng can be valuable as a 3-point shooter for us operating out of the corners.
Similarly, people wanna act like CHalmers forgot how to shoot the 3-ball based on his 29% shooting last season. Well, Chalmers has always been better as a catch-and-shoot 3-point shooter. Despite his size, he is an off ball player offensively. We just had no other ballhandler besides an in and out of the lineup Wade last season prior to Dragic's arrival, so Chalmers was called upon to do more. He sucked. But luckily, we should be able to get back to using him as an off ball floor spacer.
Despite Chalmers sucking from 3 last year, he still shot 38% from 3 on catch-and-shoot 3s. The problem is that he shot 10% on pull-up 3s. Almost 1/3 of his 3PA were pull-ups. With Chalmers in a more restricted role, on a more talented offense, he should be a pure catch-and-shoot guy for us. Expect a bounce back in his 3 point fg%
You're riding a lot of optimism that Deng will be better this year. Despite the injury bug last year, he still had plenty of open looks and missed a ton of them. Until I see improvement, I will continue to have the same sentiments.
He hit the corner three at a high clip last season. He just sucks everywhere else on the 3pt line.
Boy I hope Whiteside's midrange actually improved more because if not, it's going to be a rough season of zone defense.
He is a horrendous shooter from anywhere in my opinion. All I want from him is man on man D and attacking the rim. The fewer jumpers, the better.
