Dude has it all figured out. Mump what anybody thinks. Make that paper. Give it to God or feed the family, with the new twins.

I'm not mad at him.

(This is for fishercob)-- "I met Nene at Pete Newell's Big Man Camp. It was over at Kamehameha HS. Dude LOOKED like a superstar of the future. I got his autograph. Not gay (not that it's a bad thing) but he's got bright eyes. Like the Light of God in his eyes. He couldn't speak English but Nene was very gracious in signing--UNLIKE Etan Thomas and Brendan Haywood".

I think if you consider his injuries and cancer battle, he's very solid. I'm very glad the Wizards traded for him EVEN THOUGH FOUR YEARS AGO I WAS WRONG to be mad about them trading Javale McGee...

nate, it's good to see the man looking so fit. I just KNOW he shot a heap of threes over the summer ...

You know NENE spent the summer shooting 3s?

Sorry ... I SHOULD HAVE made it more obvious that I'm speculating.

Context: nate says dude looks ripped. Might be he wants a good contract. MY MIND MADE THE LEAP TO ASSUME Nene wants that cheddar and figured out HE CAN ALSO BE A STRETCH FOUR IF HE HITS THREES!

No, I have no source of Nene and threes. Just intuited it. THANKS , great teacher pb0. I did introduce error, potentially. That's how RUMORS GET STARTED.

FOR ANYBODY THAT WAS NOT CLEAR: I just THINK THINK THINK that Nene's probably shot threes, too.

WHY WOULDN"T EVERY POWER FORWARD TRY AND STRETCH OUT HIS SHOT???? The NBA saw what GS just did with a stretch 4 in Draymond Green. Thanks, penbeast0, for a teachable moment. I need to be clearer when speculating.

LAST THING: Years ago I said I think guys like Javale McGee should shoot threes. This is why...maybe 7 years later, but I always wondered why Europe could create a Pau Gasol and Dirk Nowitzki, but NBA insisted that tall guys that didn't bang in the paint were punks or weak.

STRETCH FOUR ALWAYS MADE SENSE TO ME, and I thank penbeast0 for getting me to explain why.

Those jerseys need a redesign ASAP as you see the retro jerseys line in shorts go near ankles. The jerseys line on shorts have to be longer and it would be somewhat tolerable. Can't believe they would ok that.

Speaking of going near ankles, the Big E really had the total package, didn't he?

Also, they won 46 games with Beal being out for a huge chunk (and that was when they accumulated most of their losses, there was zero floor spacing with Temple when the team went like 1-11 or whatever).

Even with Wittman's long two offense, if Beal was healthy last year the Wiz are a probably a ~50-win team. Or if we had Neal/Anderson or any backup SG whose offense is somewhat respected, instead of Temple.

Vegas has the Wiz over/under at 45.5 wins, the over on that is easy money imo

Let me say this about webby, They told me when I herniated a disc that one of the best ways to improve it is to lose weight. 20lbs is a lot less to carry around with you, and I'm sure that will help him get back to his old self.

I'm loving what I'm hearing though! ! ! I'm getting so excited!

Speaking of games...

They start preseason tonight. So I'm planning on going being a season ticket holder and all that.
I have 2 seats and I think my wife said no thanks tonight. So I have an extra. It's preseason.
My treat. Warning or full disclosure, Your designated seat will be next to mine.

Man, Tuf Juice's account of the locker room gunslinging incident is pretty harrowing.

Gil was so dang close to getting a bullet in his bean.

Probably not an exaggeration, Crit ended-up shooting someone.

Exactly. Didn't know at the time the extent to which the dude was a sociopath.

It's Crittenden's later actions that make this episode so creepy. Gil's lucky to be alive.

Wizards Training Camp 2015

Post#153 » by Chocolate City Jordanaire » Fri Oct 9, 2015 12:36 pm

I did feel from the very beginning Gilbert was trying to get a dude up off him.

People talking about guns in the locker room and shame on Gil had no clue. Management outrage just showed the lack of wisdom on that particular matter.

Self Reporting the guns (snitching) is what made me mad. It was abundantly clear to me that Gilbert was no gangster.

Which snitching are you referring to? If I was in locker room, sounds like Crittenden was an actual threat to kill someone, so stopping that threat seems like the right thing to do.
Looking at management, I didn't like the outage either and the demonization of Gil, but I don't think not reporting was an option. There are serious legal repercussions to not reporting a crime, especially if not reporting causes additional crimes, like an actual shooting.

I'm talking about AFTER THE INCIDENT nobody turned in the actual threat's gun (Crittenton might have been better off if his gun was turned in).

GILBERT COOPERATED, (brought guns back to the scene at management's behest after police were called in); and his guns actually incriminated him only.

Unless l read incorrectly, the guns were long gone off the team facility. DC metro police came later.

I wasn't there. I could have all my facts wrong

How many times have we seen that for public figures - the cover-up is worse than the crime? That incident happened just a few years ago, but to most fans it's already ancient history. If they tried to cover it up, it could have crushed the franchise - there might be no end to the criticisms to the organization, and there likely would have been severe penalties. Team management could have handled things better (particularly with their letter writing), but hiding facts could and likely would have made things dramatically worse - especially since there were many witnesses. Arenas made his own bed and should not be treated like a martyr - and isn't by 99% of Wiz fans. He f'd up - there's no getting around that. He paid a price, and it's old news.

If Arenas had shown more remorse he would have probably not been suspended. To me, what he did was pretty stupid, it was a bad joke gone wrong. But I do have sympathy because no one takes him that seriously anymore. I think a lot of people have forgotten how good Gilbert Arenas was; of course I wouldn't think that those people are that knowledgeable about basketball to begin with.

I thought the team screwed up by NOT making it public. It's the kind of thing that was bound to get out, eventually, which it did. The writer who broke the story was Peter Vecsey, and he's probably the last guy you'd want reporting a story like that. That first story defined the narrative. Pro sports teams have the clout and capability to report their own news. To me, what they should have done was have a press conference where Grunfeld stood up there and described the situation as a locker room joke that went too far -- specifically to avoid the Wild West characterization. Then I'd have suspended both Arenas and Crittenton indefinitely pending the outcome of police investigation -- emphasizing that the players of course had no idea they were breaking laws.

OR, I'd have fed the story -- a sanitized version -- to some sympathetic reporter.

Fundamental point being: don't let the story get broken by someone as salacious and irresponsible as Peter Vecsey.

I would have been happy with that approach. Why can't you handle Wizards PR? As it was, the team to me ended up looking self serving, as if once the cat was out of the bag, their sole motivation was ditching Arenas' contract. Whatever their motivation, they handled it really poorly.
