Upshaw dropped 20 pounds following Summer League

“I would run for an hour and then I would have a basketball workout and then a strength-and-conditioning workout,” he said. “And then I would get shots up at night. I stayed consistent with that for a month and a half, every day, six days a week.”

I understand the reservations some of you have about him, but this news is only a good sign.

Only 6 days a week? I expected at least 8.

if he can make the team and be a low minute defensive presence that would be great, but bigs generally take longer to develop and he's pretty raw, so i expect him to be a Dfender

Between Hibbert and Upshaw the Lakers are the new jenny craig of the nba. "Joining the Lakers lost me 19 lbs!"

I think he'll be the 15th man and in the D-League all year. Maybe, should injury happens, he'll get a call up and play some sparing minutes.

To be fair... He looked pretty out of shape in summer league... He had the weight to lose.

But all good things for him so far. Hope the trend continues.

He was almost comically out of shape at summer league

We all were wondering what he has been doin.
And I am super happy this is the answer

Excited to see preseason.

Good news for upshaw. He probably has another 20 pounds to go before he's in acceptable shape, but he has enough time to do it I think.

Cocaine will do that (J/K) Seriously though Upshaw can be a defensive monster if he stays on the right track. Could easily be a 2-3 bpg big right out the gate if given the minutes.

Looks like he is taking this opportunity seriously... I hope he continues in the right path as he could really be a steal!

I think some are forgetting that the man had heart problems prior to SL, it shouldn't be a surprise that he was out of shape....he couldn't do anything until doctors cleared him. Same reason it took so long for the Lakers to sign him, he had to have a clean bill of health.

He played 25 mins last game really surprised at the improvement of his conditioning and the amount of mins.
In summer league watching him I thought there is no way he can survive and needed a season or 2 on NBDL not just for
fundamentals but basic conditioning.

Was really shocked how much progress he has made in such a short time span.

His final stat line was 6 points 3 rebounds and 2 blocks

Considering the fact that 'Slimreaper' would be a pretty damn good nickname for Upshaw, I'm just going to go ahead and assume you're him...
Good game Robert. Now get in the gym and put some of that weight back on in muscle... Swaggy's got bigger guns than you.

Good news appears to be that he is a lot more explosive than I initially thought and that post up, turn around jumper is for real. This kid has some serious potential if we can keep him on the straight and narrow. I'd be pissed if we cut him to keep Sacre, Jabari or Metta.
