is it just me or is KAT looking noticeable bigger (in terms of muscle, shoulders etc) than before the summer?

KAT has the tools to be the best big in the game imo. He has the offensive game of the Kevin Love and Lamarcus Aldridge but can also be a huge contributor on defense.

Usually big men tend to take more time than wings or guards to get acclimated, but Towns is coming with an NBA ready body and skills. That preseason game was telling of his future development because you can see the adjustments he has made since summer league. 3 months ago!

Right now, I'm thinking Towns goes down as a better player than Wiggins. He just seems so much more proactive in effecting games and wants to the pressure of being a #1 pick and franchise player. I'm not saying Wiggins shys away from it, he just doesn't embrace it like Towns.

I think Wiggins will be more valuable on the defensive end down the line rather than being a hyper aggressive scorer. IMO Wiggins has a much higher ceiling on the defensive end than either Kawhi or PG, who are considered to be the best perimeter defenders in the game.

I'm absolutely in love with what I saw from Towns in game 1. He's a Rookie and obviously he'll have plenty of head scratching games, but that talent, boy what is it impressive. He showed post moves, he showed outside jumpers, he put it on the floor. I have little doubt in a few years, health permitting, he's going to be the whole package

I thought he would take time before becoming a proficient scorer, I now realize he has the potential to be a 20ppg scorer in under two years

Yep call it blasphemy and setting the bar to high but I see a lot of parallels between KAT and Tim Duncan. Considering Duncan was a 4 year college guy I can't wait to see what KAT becomes in the next few years.

He looked a lot bigger than he did in summer league. I really didn't notice much of a size difference with Pau, and he held his own in all positions.

I thought Karl Anthony-Towns looked very solid tonight. He forced things too much, and was out of position on rebounding multiple times, but I am very, very pleased with how hard he plays (once the game slows down for him, the other issues will solve themselves). After watching the lethargic effort of the rest of the starters, it was nice to see that he at least cares, he is going to be a beast.

He's such a great prospect. If only we still had McHale to coach him.

Note: Only him, not the whole team.

The one thing that stands out so far to me is that he seems to have a great motor. Doesn't matter if he's still making some mistakes. Those are correctable but if you lack motor that's not correctable. See Bennett.

He and Tyus had some good moments in pick and roll

I have my hopes all up with this guy! My favorite part of his game, aside from his bbiq, is his fight under the rim for the offensive rebound. Hope he maintains that through all season, we need second chance points.

Serious motor. The dude is 7 ft tall diving on the ground for loose balls

I forgot which quarter it was but there was a timeout after a Towns made basket on NBA TV. Towns was making his way to the bench and Sam Mitchell was furious with something and was getting in Towns' ear real hard. Towns slowed down and put his arm around the coach and nodded on everything Sam was yelling to him about.

That to me is one of his most underrated qualities. He is genuinely a great kid. If one of your potential best players sets that type of example It rubs off on the whole team (ex. Tim Duncan is the biggest reason the Spurs are the Spurs personality-wise).

If management plays their cards right, the Towns/Wiggins professionalism should be carried through the entire franchise for years to come. Other guys will have to fall in line with the franchise culture. I can already see it having an effect on more volatile personalities like Lavine. Usually teams develop the personality of their best players.

Good post, except for when you mentioned LaVine has a volatile personality.

Yeah, haven't seen anything volatile about LaVine, otherwise decent points.

You guys are right. Volatile is not the right word. I do see Towns and Wiggins as more example-setters/leaders, especially Towns. I think the Towns factor will help them improve their camaraderie as a team, improve shot selection, and even communicate better with the media.

This gives me chills because it's kind of true. KAT is ...understated in the same way that Duncan is. When I saw him in the first preseason game at times he reminded me of Anthony Davis, and NikolaPekovic mentioned LaMarcus Aldridge, which I can sort of see as well. But Duncan, I think that might be the best comparison of all. And yes, it does feel very bold to say, but it rings true to me.

I think the thing is that like Duncan, Towns has very, very efficient movements. He is able to create bursts of speed surprisingly quickly for a big man and he shows very little indecision and he makes really good choices. All of this together makes his game exceptionally smooth. Plus the obvious effort and awareness on defense.

Just wait til he starts playing with Rubio feeding him the ball. :burger:

I think the Rubio/Towns pairing has WAY more potential on both ends of the floor than Rubio/Love ever did (and I liked Rubio/Love).
